Title:  Central Sterile Technician  

Reports to:  Director of Nursing 

Location – onsite/hybrid:  There may be occasional local day travel to various Ortho RI locations. 

Hours: Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday and may vary depending on location hours and company schedule.

What you’ll do:  

The Central Sterile Technician is responsible for maintaining instruments and equipment in an optimal fashion and preparing instrumentation, equipment, and sterile supplies for the surgical patient. The Central Sterile Technician is responsible to assist with the provision of patient care to meet identified patient outcomes, and to achieve the goals Ortho RI as directed by the clinical leader. The Central Sterile Technician performs duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Ortho RI.   

Responsibilities/Duties:  

• Compliance with HIPAA and OSHA regulations  

• Demonstrates ability to respond to patient care needs in an emergency and under direction of Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse  

• Demonstrates ability to meet patients and family's learning needs as identified in the plan of care under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse.  

• Functions as an Instrument Processing Technician under the direction of the Clinical Leader/Registered Nurse  

• Cleans and/or disinfects instruments and equipment after use and returns it to the proper area, in appropriate sequence, for storage and/or processing  

• Demonstrates ability to understand and use sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, instrument washers, and other designated processors  

• Cleans, wraps, sterilizes, and disinfects instruments and equipment and maintains the functions of the instrument processing area/department  

• Perform weekly inventory of processing supplies and notifies appropriate personnel of order needs  

• Assists in room turnover when needed and as assigned  

• Checks updated schedule every morning and prepares rooms with supplies and equipment as assigned and directed by management.  

• Attends and participates in all applicable facility training and development workshops scheduled by the facility  

• Communicates patient information to assure confidentiality and continuity of care  

• Interacts with all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees in a mature, responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional environment  

• Performs all other duties as assigned by management  

Qualifications

Who you are: 

Qualifications:  

• High School Diploma or equivalent  

• Certification as a Central Sterile Technician preferred 

• Any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.  

• Understanding of sterilization and high-level disinfection technologies including industry standardized principles and practice in sterilization and disinfection required.   

• Prior experience in instrument processing preferred.
