The Director of Engineering Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all engineering operations at Spirit, including operations within the test lab and circuit card assembly line. The Director of Engineering Operations will lead and coordinate various engineering teams, manage complex projects, and ensure operational excellence in testing, quality control, and circuit card assembly. The ideal candidate will have experience in engineering management within aerospace and defense with a strong focus on microelectronics and semiconductor components.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for all engineering operations, including testing, quality control, and assembly
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of data, reports, components, and assemblies
- Manage and optimize the allocation of engineering resources across specialties, operations, and teams within the engineering department
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and productivity
- Collaborate with senior leaders to align engineering operations with overall business objectives
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and quality requirements, including AS9100 and MIL-STD-883
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes and capabilities
- Manage relationships with key customers, suppliers, and partners
- Oversee development and maintenance of engineering infrastructure, including facility and machinery
- Mentor and develop engineering team members, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence
- Collaborate with the Quality Department to maintain high standards in engineering operations
- Manage budgets and financial performance of engineering operations
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to maintain competitive advantage
- 10 years of progressive experience in engineering, with experience in a senior management role
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or aerospace engineering, or related engineering field
- Master’s degree preferred
- Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale engineering projects and operation
- Knowledge of aerospace and defense industry standards, regulations, and quality requirements
- Microelectronics, semiconductors, and EEE components, in aerospace and defense applications
- Experience with MIL-STD test methods, environmental testing, and qualification processes
- Leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop excellent teams
- Strong project management skills and experience with project management methodologies
