Communications Specialist
Location: Lafayette, IN (Expanding in the Indianapolis area)

Job Summary: As the first point of contact for Spirit EMS, the Communications Specialist (CS) manages emergency and non-emergency transportation requests. You will handle incoming calls from hospitals, nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, and private residences. Your responsibilities include dispatching units, coordinating schedules, maintaining call logs, and rerouting assignments when necessary. You’ll ensure vehicles and crews meet customers' needs while adhering to response standards. Success in this role requires excellent multitasking skills, a calm demeanor in high-pressure situations, and strong communication and organizational abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage emergency and non-emergency calls, logging and routing transport requests.
- Dispatch EMS vehicles and coordinate schedules using specialized software.
- Prioritize calls based on urgency and adapt assignments to changing conditions.
- Monitor field units and adjust routes for breakdowns, traffic, or high-priority calls.
- Maintain clear communication with crews via phone, radio, or computer.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all privacy regulations.
- Maintain clean and organized workspaces.
- Complete daily logs and reports accurately.
- Attend all required training and company meetings.
- Additional duties as assigned by senior management.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage high-stress situations.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Basic geographical knowledge of Lafayette, Indianapolis, and surrounding areas.
- Proficiency in using multi-line phone systems, radios, and dispatch software.
- Comfortable sitting for extended periods and working in front of computer monitors.
- Must be detail-oriented, able to follow instructions, and recall information quickly.
Work Environment: This position is primarily office-based, involving long periods of sitting and answering phones in front of computer screens.
