About the Clinic
Spirit was established in 1980 in the heart of West Allis, Wisconsin. Over the years we have created everlasting bonds with our clients which is why we have grown from a one doctor practice to a busy five doctor practice. We see cats, dogs, exotics and small mammals and we have been voted Best Veterinary Clinic in Milwaukee on more than one occasion. We are a unique clinic in this day and age as we are still privately family owned. Our modern 4,400 square foot building is equipped with digital radiography, dental digital radiography, ultrasound, Sedivue urinalysis, IDEXX in-house laboratory, impromed software, cold laser, in-house pharmacy as well as our own external compounding pharmacy. We have 5 examination rooms, 2 surgical suites, separate staff room for lunches and meetings which is equipped with a television and a small kitchen.

We currently have an awesome team of Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, Client Service Representatives, Practice Manager and Office/HR Manager as well as our Veterinarians. Our team is hard-working, compassionate and will welcome you into our family-like atmosphere in the workplace. Most of our team members are long-standing, full time employees, which ensures continuity and collaboration.
The location
Spirit of 76th Veterinary Clinic is in a family friendly suburb of Milwaukee and only 7 miles from the heart of downtown Milwaukee. However, prefer the country? Simply head 10 miles West and you are in the beautiful Waukesha, Delafield, Pewaukee district.
The opportunity
To our already established team we are looking to add a Veterinary Technician. As a veterinary technician you are an integral part of the veterinary team, you are the doctors primary support person. A veterinary technician is involved in many duties beginning when a patient enters the clinic and examination of that patient, through diagnosis, treatment and then discharge. A veterinary technician must have knowledge in their field but also have a genuine, caring nature towards both patients and clients.
Job Duties
General
Triage patients to determine order of diagnostics and procedures
Auscultate heart and lungs, be able to identify if there is an abnormality
Proficiently perform venipuncture and use correct collection equipment
Place an intravenous catheter
Set up intravenous fluids
Can accurately calculate intravenous fluid rates
Run blood on in-house idexx machines
Perform ultrasound guided cystocentesis and urinalysis
When necessary, perform urinary catheterization
Correctly position, collimate and take radiographs
Follow correct safety recommendations when taking radiographs
Induce anesthesia
Monitor anesthesia
o Identify normal and abnormal BP
o Identify normal and abnormal EKG
o Identify normal and abnormal SP02
Anesthesia recovery
Monitor sedation
Perform teeth cleaning and polish
Calculate medication doses and draw up medications accurately
Administer medications, vaccines (excluding rabies), and treatments prescribed by a veterinarian

Assist with medication refills
Assists with restraint of aggressive, fearful or very sick patients
Understands usage and dosage for all pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals used at the clinic
Counsels’ clients on various aspects of animal care, explains dose and purpose of medications
Relays normal bloodwork values to clients
Assist doctors in entering charges

Advanced
Dental radiographs and extractions with blocks
- Enter dental charges
Run a code until doctors are present
Interpret blood smears
Perform CBC with differential
Interpret saline agglutination
Perform testicular blocks
Nasogastric tube placement
Administer rabies vaccination
This is by no means a complete list of duties and responsibilities. Some tasks may be added or removed. All Veterinary Technicians are expected to follow all current clinic procedures and policies at all times.

Environmental working conditions

- Exposure to various risks including but not limited to; toxoplasmosis, leptospirosis, rabies, radiation, gas anesthesia, drugs and chemicals , as well as compassion fatigue.
Job Requirements
- Veterinary Technician Certification or 2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician.

Clinic Hours
Our clinic hours are: Mon-Thurs 8am-7pm, Friday 8am-6pm and Closed Saturday and Sunday
Veterinary Technician Hours
We like to keep everything fair at Spirit of 76th Veterinary Clinic for all our staff members therefore we do require our Veterinary Technicians to be flexible in their work hours.
We have 3 shifts for our technicians
· Opening shift: 6:30am-4:30pm
· Mid shift: 8am-6pm
· Closing shift: 9am-7pm
Our veterinary technicians work 10 hour shifts four (4) days per week.
Full time is 38 hours per week
Pay
Veterinary technician pay will differ based upon experience.
