Job Summary:
SPL is growing and is currently looking for a Laboratory Technician I - Environmental in Brownsville, TX.
The Laboratory Technician I must be team oriented, proactive, and goal driven. This position will perform a standard set of physical property testing, chemical composition testing, sampling, sample receipt and data report generation functions. The associate participates in the on-call rotation for their specified lab.
Responsibilities:
- Proficient at receiving samples and logging them into the computer system;
- Proficient at the use of computer software system to calculate and report data results;
- Clean laboratory glassware and equipment as needed;
- Assist with Statistical Quality Control testing, calibrations and preventative maintenance;
- Obtains a representative sample at various client locations such as tanks and gas pumps;
- Adheres to SPL safety policies;
- Assist with general housekeeping of the facility;
- Participates in the on-call rotation;
- This is a very safety sensitive position and accuracy and dependability are critical to the success of the role.

- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite to perform job functions;
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations including algebra and statistics;
- Ability to keep accurate records;
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats;
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form;
- Ability to work with chemical, petroleum and petrochemical products;
- Valid driver license and auto insurance.
- Work is performed in an environment that involves exposure to hazardous and/or toxic chemicals;
- Work may be performed at height conditions;
- Work may be performed in inclement weather conditions;
- Working conditions include exposure to chemicals and experiments common in an environmental testing laboratory;
- Equipment includes laboratory test instruments and equipment, computers, and safety equipment.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or other science preferred;
Relocation:
This position is not eligible for relocation.
Travel Requirements:
This position does not require travel.
Work Schedule:
This position will work 8 hours Monday-Friday in SPL’s Brownsville, TX location. This position is subject to overtime availability to meet deadlines.
