SPM Resources has an immediate need for a Electrical Protection & Controls Designer located in Roanoke, VA with a growing national engineering firm. We are seeking a highly skilled Protection & Controls Electrical Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining protective relay and control systems for electrical power systems, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently.
Qualifications
- An Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) and 4 to 8 years of experience, or 5 years of prior relevant experience in utility substation engineering.
- Minimum of 4-8 years of experience in protection and control design for electrical power systems specific to utilities.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, protective relay operations, and control systems. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical) and system design tools.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with project teams and clients.
- Innovative problem solver with the ability to work through technical challenges and improve procedures.
- Understanding of the utility grid (power generation, transmission, and distribution) system.
- Perform substation design tasks, develop design drawings and documents, prepare material lists, perform field reviews, and other tasks for projects
