What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Technician 1 (SEASONAL) - Construction Inspection & Survey position at Spokane County?
This is skilled engineering technical support work performed in the office or field in one or more public works functions such as traffic engineering and operations, planning/programming and development review for transportation or utilities, landfill monitoring, environmental permitting, water resources, pavement management, surveying, project design/drafting, materials testing and construction inspection.
WHO MAY APPLY: This recruitment is open to all applicants meeting the minimum requirements. Priority consideration will be given to regular Spokane County employees in a position covered by the PROTEC17 bargaining unit applying between 2/13/25 and 2/28/25.

Engineering Technician 1
Construction Inspection/Materials Inspection/Survey/Design Assistant
1. Under close supervision, assists by making measurements, setting spread stakes, checking grades, asphalt yields, surfacing depths and other data; writes, receives and accounts for item tickets for materials hauled or supplied by contractors; operates truck scales; reads and interprets plans and specifications for projects; inspects workmanship and materials; notes and reports deviations from plans or specifications to the supervising inspector.
2. Under close supervision, assists by taking samples of rock, asphalt, concrete, etc.; by running tests and making computations of and documenting the results.
3. Under close supervision, performs routine surveying assignments; assists in computing curves, elevations, etc.; measures distances, assists in locating and uncovering section and property corners and monuments.
4. Under close supervision, performs routine computer aided drafting of plans and makes limited engineering computation such as the reduction of field notes or calculating quantities; operates various computer-aided drafting programs. Accurately maintains County maps and records. Plots legal descriptions.
Employees may be assigned a combination of duties from jobs within this class or perform duties of similar responsibility and difficulty, not specifically mentioned herein, yet incidental to the complete work process.
Performs other related duties as required.
Engineering Technician 1: High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of technical engineering-related experience or training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job.
LICENSE: Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Salary : $48,590 - $67,680
