What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks/Golf Course Maintenance Worker (Seasonal) position at Spokane County?
NOTE: This recruitment will be used to fill up to six (6) seasonal vacancies working 37.5 hours per week.
The positions allocated to this classification perform semi-skilled maintenance and operation activities related to Spokane County golf course and/or park facilities and equipment.  Incumbents work a limited term of employment, reliant upon the opening and close dates of County parks or golf courses. Work is commonly performed independently, with limited supervision but under the general direction of a Golf Course Superintendent, Park Operations Division Manager or designee.  Incumbents may assist and oversee the work of extra help employees.Â
WHO MAY APPLY: This recruitment is open to all applicants meeting the minimum requirements. Priority consideration will be given to Spokane County employees in a position covered by the Master Contract submitting applications between 2/10/25 and 2/14/25. First consideration will be given to applicants working in the Parks department in a position covered by the 1553 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA); second consideration given to County-wide applicants in a position covered by the 1553 CBA; third consideration given to applicants covered by the Master Contract CBA; fourth consideration will be given to all other applicants.

- Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and labor tasks for the Spokane County parks or golf courses. Â Â
- Performs general maintenance and improvement of grounds to include mowing, edging, sweeping, raking, trimming, cutting weeds and assisting with tree and shrub pruning. Â Plants flowers and trees; applies fertilizers and pesticides under supervision. Â Golf assignments include cutting cups, brushing greens and raking bunkers. Â
- Performs general maintenance of playing fields, ornamental planting areas, hard surface areas, swimming pools, various "court" facilities, waterfront areas, picnic areas, trails, roadways, and other park facilities.
- Performs all types of interior and exterior custodial services including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, waxing, polishing, finishing, dusting, litter disposal, debris removal and restocking consumables.
- Performs semi-skilled painting assignments using brush, roller, or spray equipment; prepares surfaces for painting; applies stains, varnishes, lacquers, and enamels to a variety of buildings, structures, fixtures, and surfaces.
- Maintains, repairs, replaces irrigation components including but not limited to heads, lines, valves, and boxes.
- Regularly operates light to medium duty vehicles and equipment, including trucks, compact pickups, pull trailers, tractors, riding mowers and golf carts. Â
- Cleans, maintains and conducts minor repairs to power and hand tools and vehicles. Â
- May provide information, answer questions and otherwise interact with the public in the course of performing duties. Â
- May oversee and coordinate work of lower-level workers. Â
- Assists with special projects, as neededÂ
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Six (6) months of education and/or experience which demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities for the position. Â Â Â
