NATURE OF WORK:

Responsible for overseeing aspects of technical theatre support for the Performing Arts Center.

SUPERVISION:

Under the supervision of the Director of Entertainment. Employees may plan and arrange their own work according to event schedules.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Responsible for coordination and supervision of technical theatre support provided to clients.
  • Works closely with clients to understand their needs, provide guidance and coordinate resources in support of their event.
  • Schedules and supervises the work of Union represented in-house and visiting stagehands, clients and contractors in the setup, operation and maintenance of the theatre systems and equipment.
  • Established and maintained standards of service and technical theatre proficiency for stage crew personnel as well as standards for the facility and equipment in service to theatre clients.
  • Works closely with clients to understand desired outcomes and provides thoughtful guidance and coordination of staff and equipment and staff resources to meet or exceed expectations.
  • Schedules and supervises staff and clients in the use of all theatre systems and spaces.
  • Reads, interprets, amends and creates professional level theatrical design plans and prepares production schedules, cost estimates and crew call to facilitate the timely installation of plans.
  • Complete the audio, lighting, video and other stage systems plans and set up logistics in preparation for client arrival.
  • Provides recommendations to clients in the areas of audio, lighting, and stage carpentry. Reviews rigging needs and ensures safe rigging practices are utilized for any and all client scenery and equipment.
  • Establishes, trains and enforces theatre safety guidelines with clients and staff.
  • In conjunction with Custodial Contractor, schedules and monitors cleaning functions to maintain established standards of appearance for theatre spaces.
  • Is responsible for the theatre equipment inventory and maintenance program for the theatre.
  • Maintains clean, safe and organized work and storage areas.
  • Supervises and participates in special development projects that involve building or assembling equipment.
  • Supervises and participates in the ongoing development of standard operating procedures for the theatre.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate theatre event documentation.
  • Develops ideas and proposals for continued improvement in the theatre.
  • Reports to Director of Entertainment regarding status and situation of technical systems and capital needs.
  • Maintains thorough working knowledge of IATSE Local 93 contract language.
  • Develops and maintains relevant production details, arrangements and historical notes in Event Business Management Systems (EBMS) event plan for every client.
  • Prepares and transmits all post-event labor and service billing charges to the Finance Department in a timely, thorough, and accurate manner.
  • Responsible for communicating the details of the evening’s event to production crew and all relevant in-house departments. Responsible for securing required passes and tickets and prepares guest lists.
  • Manages members of the Production crew and Greenroom staff
  • Ensure that members of the Band(s) have required items needed to perform the show(s)
  • Supervises the Load-in and load out of band equipment and rental equipment.
  • Responsible for documenting disciplinary issues of production crew and reports actions back to Production Manager
  • Execute settlement per contract with artists post show (instead of point four).
  • Ensure all in-house policies are enforced regarding staging, safety and show protocol.
  • Participates in the annual budget development for the Theater with a focus on labor cost projections, equipment and supplies, annual regulatory and facility maintenance.
  • Prepares and manages scheduling and labor costs for all IATSE staff. Ensures that labor is used efficiently and effectively, and all client-based labor costs are billed to clients.
  • Provides labor cost estimates for clients and informs them about scheduling practices that could result in overtime charges or “meal” and other penalties outlined in the IATSE labor contract.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
Requirements:


MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre or theatrical design.
  • Four years of professional experience in operation and maintenance of theatre technical systems. Two years of supervisory experience. Other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Stage and production management experience required.
  • Extensive or Journey level knowledge of technical theatre functions, inclusive of modern stage lighting and electrics, concert and theatrical sound systems, counterweight rigging systems, stage management, video projection, set construction, orchestra, symphonic and choral staging.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and requirements relative to equipment used in theatres.
  • Knowledge of computers and appropriate software skills with emphasis on Word and Excel.
  • Ability to make minor repairs to theatre equipment including sound and lighting systems and assist in larger repairs when necessary.
  • Ability to work independently with high expectations for excellent performance in setup, guest satisfaction, quality decision making, safety, speed, accuracy and self-start projects.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English and to speak English fluently and effectively before groups of customers and employees.
  • Able to work irregular hours and weekend shifts as required.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and ability to take initiative.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with clients.
  • Passion for the theatre, concerts, comedy, and arts.
  • Ability to multi-task while paying great attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently on projects and also as part of a larger team.
  • Ability to effectively work under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft 365
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required.

SALARY AND STATUS

$57,500 - $80,500 Non-Exempt
