Job Title: Mill/Splitter Operator
Department: Spokane Seed Co. Plant (Spokane, WA).
Reports To: Plant Superintendent, Foreman
Employment Status: Full Time
Summary: Performs routine and widespread milling operation procedures with equipment to clean and purify peas, lentils, and Garbanzo Beans (Chickpeas) and have the ability to multi-task while running several lines simultaneously.
Important Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned):
- Ability to unload trucks and rail cars to specific tanks and/ or bins and ability to recognize and understand the tank/silo complex.
- Performs pre-operational checks to ensure machinery is operating correctly.
- Ability to mill product over several different machines to clean product.
- Be able to identify poor quality product and communicate to immediate supervisor
- Must take representative samples of product being milled and have ability to grade product if and when necessary.
- Be able to fix minor repairs (patch holes, replace belts, re-set breakers, etc.).
- Be able to make adjustments to machinery to better the quality.
- Be able to drive a forklift and dump product when and if necessary.
- Have the ability to stack boxes squarely in storage rows designed for boxes.
- Have the ability to multi-task and problem solve frequently.
- Be able to perform side-work that includes packaging materials.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and preferably one year of milling experience; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Good skill in the use of detail and multi-tasking.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple directions, short and/or long communication, and memos. Ability to write and communicate simple directions. Ability to effectively present information to Plant Superintendent and/ or Foreman/ or small group situations to other employees.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply using whole numbers, Ability to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed by uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few solid variables in regular situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Driver’s License, and Forklift certification (Internal testing and cert. by SSCO.)
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands, reach, grab, lift with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/ or move more than 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the necessary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and rotating machinery. The employee is infrequently exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is always moderate to occasionally loud and hearing protection is required.
Note: The worker will not be exposed to any piece of machine or equipment that he/she is not comfortable with. The worker will not be exposed to any machine or equipment that he/she is not properly trained on.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
