RATE OF PAY : $21.40 - $26.69 / PER HOUR

INTRODUCTION :

The Education Coach is responsible for the Head Start Education component and coaching of classroom teachers and assistants. The Education Coach will assist the Head Start Program Director with assurance of overall program compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards, Spokane Tribe of Indians Policies and Procedures, IHS Environmental Health Code Standards, and applicable Washington State Rules and Regulations. The Education Coach will be in the classroom daily supporting the teachers by assisting with observations, learning objectives, coaching and consulting.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assess all education staff to identify strengths, areas of needed support and which staff would benefit most from intensive coaching.
  • Provide opportunities for intensive coaching to those education staff identified-to include opportunities to be observed and receive feedback and modeling of effective teacher practices directly related to program performance goals.
  • Provide opportunities for education staff to receive other forms of research-based professional development aligned with the program performance goals.
  • Establish policies that ensure assessment results are not used to solely determine punitive actions for staff identified as needing support, without providing time and resources for staff to improve.
  • Support and encourage teaching staff in program operations, drawing on agency policies, procedures and resources to develop staff skills for successful job task completion.
  • Mentor staff using positive role modeling and reflective supervision techniques, in order to strengthen skill levels and confidence.
  • Ensure that each Head Start family receives the required amount of home visits.
  • Assist Education staff with weekly lesson plans.
  • Ensure that goals for individual children are being recorded.
  • Ensure that Education staff maintains the required component information in each child's portfolio.
  • Assess training needs, locate training opportunities, coordinate and implement training.
  • Assist with the tracking and reporting of child outcomes three times annually.
  • Work and interact with peers, as individuals and / or in team / group settings, in a professional manner that contributes to the Spokane Tribal Head Start School Readiness Goals.
  • Set School Readiness Goals that align with Head Start Performance Standards and Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF).
  • Contribute to the recruitment process and enrollment of Head Start eligible children.
  • Assist other staff in the coordination of transition services and activities.
  • Assure that on-going assessment of each child's growth and development is utilized to record achievement of Desired Results and Outcomes and that individual learning plans (ILP) are created for each child and updated on a regular basis.
  • Support Head Start Teaching staff with issues of classroom environments, behavior management and inclusion of children with special needs. This includes, but is not limited to phone, email, written reports, record keeping and tracking of data.
  • Contribute to the development and distribution of written and web-based materials for child, parents, employees and community partners within the areas of developmentally appropriate practices, screening, assessment, behavior management, learning environments, special

education, disability laws and services.

  • Adhere to established performance standards, coordinate formal evaluations of children, monitor progress through observation, tracking and follow-up.
  • Ensure accurate reports and documentation and comply with applicable laws, policies and procedures (State, Federal and Tribal).
  • Utilize the identified data management system to track, monitor and follow-up on cases with identified concerns and for those children receiving services.
  • Report cases of child abuse and neglect by serving as a mandated reporter.
  • Assist with the daily sanitizing / cleaning of the Head Start building
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILILTIES REQUIRED :

  • Requires the ability to learn, interpret, and apply District, State, and Federal requirements and objectives for academic achievement.
  • Maintain a high level of organization, including an orderly and neat work area and excellent time management skills, leading to the highest levels of productivity.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of or Willingness to learn Head Start Curriculum and Assessment tools including : Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG), Creative Curriculum, Second Steps, Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), Dial 4 Screening and Scoring, Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA), and Child Plus.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Participate in open communication and provide feedback to the director regarding operations, staffing, personal development and operational productivity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must contribute to the Head Start team in a positive and productive manner with reliability, patience and consistency.
  • Employ positive communication skills and exercise professional interpersonal abilities (tact, diplomacy, and respect) with others at all times.
  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

  • Baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education; or a baccalaureate or advanced degree and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children.
  • First Aid, CPR and Bloodborne Pathogen certification, Food Handlers Permit, and Mandated Reporter Training to be obtained during orientation period.
  • TB Test and immunization record
  • Indian Preference Applies - Indian Preference grants preference to any enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe.
  • Safety Sensitive Background - Requires a higher standard of performance and behavior.
