INTRODUCTION :
The technicians will have hands-on experiences in fisheries management, with an emphasis on water quality / limnology and fish health projects.
It is anticipated that Techs will work with limnology June November and with Fisheries December May.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Techs assist biologists with extensive field work (typically 10 hrs / day, 4 days / week, in possibly inclement weather conditions), data collection, maintenance of survey gear and boats, and data entry.
- The technician will have hands-on experience in water quality and fisheries management, with an emphasis on limnological and fish health surveys on Lake Roosevelt.
- Techs will be required to complete boater safety training and will be extensively trained in various field and laboratory safety protocols.
- Techs will be provided with personal protective equipment including footwear and life jackets. Techs will be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Willing and able to function as an entry-level fisheries technicianPunctual, safety oriented, and willing to work long days in field and office settingsAble to understand and follow safety protocolsWilling to work in inclement weather (heat, wind, rain, exposure)Willing to work flexible and long hours in office and field when necessary including remote areasWilling and able to work effectively in supervised and non-supervised settings, individually or in group settings.Willing to travel which will include overnight stays in hotels (travel, lodging and meal costs will be covered by the STF Department)Able to utilize PC computers and software and the ability to enter data into MS Excel and utilize data collection applicationsAble to handle extended periods of sun exposure and limited access to restroom facilitiesExcellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences, including colleagues, stakeholders, and the general public.Strong communication skills and wiliness to provide responsive support;Respect for Tribal governance and an understanding of Tribal structures or a desire to learn the uniqueness of Tribal operations and communities.Understanding of ecological principles, biodiversity, and the management of natural resources, including forests, wetlands, wildlife habitats, and watersheds.Able to pack and carry 30lbs over various terrainMust have ability to read, analyze, and interpret basic written protocols.Must have ability to respond effectively to general inquiries.Must be willing and able to ask questions to improve understanding of written or oral directives.Must have basic reasoning abilities, with particular emphasis on maintaining bodily safety.Must have ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.The Employee is also regularly required to stand, walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, also climb and get into confined spaces.
