Job Description
The Mechanic performs repair and fleet Operations work for Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) fleet, including fire apparatus, staff vehicles, trailers, firefighter equipment, SCBA compressors and storage systems, standby power operators, small power tolls, and snow removal equipment, as assigned. In the absence of the fleet operations supervisor, the lead mechanic will assume the responsibility of ensuring that all mechanical repairs and fleet operations are completed.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Staring rate is $6,788.92 per month, and $7,146.23 monthly after successfully completing required certifications within the first two (2) years of employment and passing probation.

Required occupational qualifications: To be eligible to apply for this position, the applicant must meet the following required occupational qualifications before the close of applications and then maintain them:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a valid state driver's license.
- Copy of Commercial Driver's License, if available.
- Must obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within the first year of employment. If needed, the department will provide the training and cover up to two test attempts.
- Must be a non-user of any tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, and successfully pass the SVFD medical and drug screening testing.
- Must possess good mechanical skills.
- Must possess adequate knowledge of operating equipment, tools, and vehicles used within SVFD (Spokane Valley Fire Department).
- Must possess and provide mechanical tools necessary to accomplish basic repairs.
- Must be physically capable of lifting heavy objects as necessary.
- Must have at least two (2) years of experience in the major repair of light and heavy-duty automotive equipment, including diesel mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems repair.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) desired.
- Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) desired.
- Must obtain a Master EVT Certification and all required ASE certifications within 2 years of hire date. Certifications must remain current as a condition of employment. If needed, the department will provide the certificate training, covering up to two test attempts per certification.
