Position Supervision

This position reports to the Support Staff Supervisor.

Position Location and Schedule:

This posting is for a position at our Downtown Campus for participants who identify as female and non-binary. Some duties of this job require interactions of a sensitive nature with participants. As a bona fide occupational qualification, we assign Support Staff to the primary campus, which most closely aligns with their gender identity.

Support Staff II positions cover shifts that are minimally staffed (e.g. overnight and weekends).

Job Description

Support Staff II provide an important role in the transitions program by modeling positive behaviors and training other team members. The Support Staff II also assists the supervisor in overseeing projects such as periodic deep cleanings of participant areas, assisting with clerical tasks, and providing input on ways to improve team efficiency. In the absence of administrative staff, the Support Staff II also processes EBT payments and assists participants with account concerns. The Support Staff II may also perform all routine duties of the Support Staff I role. Support Staff II may be recruited for, and assigned to, night and weekend shifts. These shifts require higher knowledge and skill in maintaining campus security outside of general operating hours.

Job Responsibilities

Monitor common areas and individual housing units to ensure the safety, security and cleanliness of the facility.

  • Conduct participant chore checks and room cleanliness checks to ensure all assigned tasks have been thoroughly completed. Collaborate with case management when necessary to help participants maintain program compliance in this area.
  • Clean and prepare empty beds/rooms for incoming participants.
  • Clean common areas of the campus and submit work orders when necessary.
  • Tidy offices and empty waste/recycling receptacles nightly.
  • Monitor visitors to the program when asked and ensure their visits are restricted to the appropriate hours/spaces and that their behavior is appropriate at all times.
  • Regularly walk the property, ensuring all exterior doors are locked. Log any activity that is out of the ordinary on the property or in the adjacent parking lot. Report any suspicious activity to the designated on-call staff or to authorities if needed.

Provide support services to program participants as assigned.

  • Regularly interact with each program participant in a professional manner, modeling appropriate boundaries and respect for all participants and staff.
  • Welcome new participants to campus as needed. Review program guidelines with new participants to ensure full understanding of expectations and rules.
  • Provide assistance and support to participants as needed, and in collaboration with case management staff.
  • Distribute mail and file mail for past participants.
  • Conduct and document supervised urinalysis (UA) tests with participants two times per week and randomly as requested and random UAs as circumstances may require.
  • Assemble start-up baskets for incoming participants.
  • Conduct food inventory and deliver food boxes to participant units. Discard old/expired food and ensure cold items are put away in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all relevant information is documented and communicated directly to case management staff and/or program supervisors.

Ensure the safety and security of the Transitional Housing Program throughout the overnight shift when assigned.

  • Walk the property at least three times per night, ensuring all exterior doors are locked and noting any activity that is out of the ordinary on the property or in the adjacent parking lot. Report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
  • Identify, assess, and respond to events such as intoxicated participants, those experiencing mental health crisis or other medical emergencies.
  • Conduct participant room checks at random three times each night.
  • Monitor visitors to the program; ensure their visits are restricted to the appropriate hours/spaces and that their behavior is appropriate at all times.
  • Intra-Agency collaboration and communication.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings.
  • Participate in scheduled training as requested by management staff.
  • Maintain regular direct communication, both written and verbal, with program supervisors and other Sponsors staff regarding participant progress and conduct, facilities operations, and organizational protocols/procedures.
  • Serve as the “eyes and ears” for case management and administrative staff on day shift.
  • Department and Team Support.
  • Assist with training and mentoring new support staff.
  • Process EBT collection of EBT payments and other transactions as needed when administrative staff is not available.
  • Support the program supervisor by monitoring team assignments and oversee special projects as assigned (e.g. periodic deep cleaning of participant areas or clerical support).
  • Communicate with the supervisor for work assignments, training, supplies, and other tools needed to improve the team’s efficiency.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by department supervisor and management.

Requirements

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • May work nights/weekends and holidays depending on assigned shift
  • Knowledge of general safety procedures
  • Dependable and responsive to available on-call hours
  • Preferred experience in a social advocacy role

Education And Experience

  • High school equivalency
  • Minimum of 1 year as a Sponsors Support Staff I and be in good standing; -OR-
  • 2 years’ experience providing direct support services in a social services agency.
  • Candidates without Sponsors' experience may substitute 1 year of direct support experience with certifications or higher education in addiction counseling, human services, or the mental health field.

Work Environment

  • Shared common office desk or workstation and office equipment
  • Multi-building campus with participant housing and common areas
  • Occasionally working in refrigerated or freezer area to store and retrieve food items
  • Shift assignment may require overnight facility oversight and participant interactions
  • May encounter individuals experiencing distress

Physical Demands

  • Walking up and down stairs
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Walking and standing indoors and outdoors in changing climates
  • Ability to carry up to 25 lbs. up and down stairs

Post-conviction Supervision Status

Successful candidates for this position who are on parole or probation must have completed at least 1 year of supervision, have no violations of parole or probation in the past 9 months, and not be in a diversion program (e.g. SB416, Treatment Court, DUII Diversion, Restorative Justice).
