What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Technology position at Spooner Area School District?
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
GENERAL FUNCTION: Develop and implement the District’s technology plan and support the use
of technology for instructional, administrative, and business operations purposes.
LICENSURE REQUIRED: Valid DPI license desired but not required. Other information technology
related certifications are desirable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Program Support:
- Coordinate development of the District’s technology plan and oversee its implementation.
- Manage District network to ensure reliable, effective operation.
- Facilitate procedures to ensure network security and integrity.
- Coordinate and assist in technology integration and staff development initiatives. Lead and
coordinate training in instructional and administrative functions utilizing technology.
- Works closely with LMC Specialist to support educational technology solutions used by staff,
- Coordinate maintenance of District website, including recommendations for improvement.
- Monitor compliance with software licenses.
Supervision and Evaluation:
- Direct Supervision of:
- Computer technicians
- Orient newly assigned staff members and assist in their development, as appropriate.
- Evaluate and guide workflow of technology staff to provide effective support for technology
end-users.
- Conduct meetings to keep staff members informed and to gain input.
- Coordinate staff development.
Management:
- Develop the technology budget, including but not limited to, developing replacement cycles for
- Prepare and submit the school's budgetary requests and monitor expenditures.

- Lead and organize the District Technology Committee.
- Comply with federal, state, local, and district mandates concerning emergency
procedures.
Equity and Communication
- Establish and maintain relationships to foster understanding and solicit support for overall

Miscellaneous:
- Keep abreast of changes and development in the profession by attending professional
mutual interest with others in the field.
- Demonstrate general knowledge of current educational research and practices.
- Attend regular admin team meetings as requested.
- Attend monthly School Board meetings and present Board reports as requested. Attend special
meetings, hearings, community meetings, etc. as requested.
- Represent the Spooner community with integrity when working with outside agencies such as
government and health organizations, educational institutions, etc.
- Perform various tasks as may be assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Operations.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with

Requirements: Minimum: Associate degree in Information Technology or Bachelor/Masters
degree in Education
Work Experience: 3 years working information/educational technology support or supervision
Term: Full Time- 240 Days
Wage/Salary: Based on credentials and experience
