What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Emergency Services RN position at SPOONER HEALTH SYSTEM INC.?
Under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Emergency Department Nursing Director assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care delivery in Emergency Services. This role also serves as the lead for Emergency Preparedness and provides administrative direction for the development and evaluation of all nursing personnel in the emergency department. The supervisor maintains operational aspects of the unit in collaboration with Senior Leadership and supports the philosophy, objectives, and educational efforts of the organization.
- Formulate patient care policies and procedures for the emergency department.
- Supervise nursing activities related to patient care and set standards for accurate reporting.
- Organize patient care and ensure continuity based on clinical nursing needs.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of patients and the health and safety of employees.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to provide a safe, clean, and secure environment.
- Utilize and instruct staff on quality assurance standards and programs.
- Evaluate patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, re-evaluation, and documentation.
- Administer nursing care to patients as needed to maintain clinical skills.
- Oversee Emergency Preparedness program activities in partnership with the Safety Officer and Infection Preventionist.
- Assist in developing and maintaining the budget for the emergency department.
- Evaluate and set standards for equipment and monitor utilization of supplies.
- Develop timely and clear goals for the department and communicate them to staff.
- Identify educational needs and encourage continuing education for nursing staff.
- Facilitate staff meetings, continuing education programs, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with family and health professionals regarding patient care.
- Provide for the professional growth and development of nursing staff.
- Interpret philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for all personnel, patients, and the public.
- Identify personnel issues, counsel staff, and follow through with disciplinary processes.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and convey the mission and values of the organization.
- Provide leadership and direction in line with organizational goals.
Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
Licensure: Licensed and currently registered as a registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin.
Experience: Two to five years of clinical experience, preferably in a supervisory nursing position, with experience in Emergency Services and a rural setting preferred.
Skills: Demonstrated leadership abilities, ability to work under stressful situations, and good oral and written communication skills.
