What are the responsibilities and job description for the MLT or MT position at SPOONER HEALTH SYSTEM INC.?
The MLT will demonstrate competency in a wide range of laboratory tests, including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and more, while maintaining quality control and assisting in preventative maintenance of lab equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in hematology, immunohematology, chemistry, serology, microbiology, and urinalysis.
- Evaluate the adequacy of specimens and ensure correct handling of infectious materials.
- Perform blood and specimen collection under aseptic conditions.
- Accurately log data into worksheets and on patient report forms with proper control and support data.
- Assist in preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment and ensure adherence to quality control procedures.
- Assist with inventory control and ordering supplies.
- Participate in staff meetings, continuing education programs, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients to ensure optimal care and service.
- Comply with universal blood and body fluid precautions, as well as departmental and safety policies.
- Notify supervisor of any safety concerns or hazards to staff or patients.
- Successfully complete required annual job-specific competency testing and mandatory in-services (CPR, Safety, Disaster, Infection Control).
Certification: MLT (ASCP) certification (or eligibility) or a nationally recognized certification for medical technologists.
Other: Must be able to work effectively under stressful conditions and must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
