What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer: School Beautification Project - Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service position at Sports and Arts in Schools Foundation?
Operating between three and five days each week for 36 weeks during the school year in most programs, we offer combined academic enrichment curricula including literacy, STEM, leadership, High School Today College Tomorrow (HSTCT) and Middle School Today High School Tomorrow (MSTHST) with sports and wellness, music, visual and performing arts opportunities and trips to educational and cultural institutions.,
The school beautification projects will transform our educational spaces into vibrant and inspiring environments. In partnership with local artists, students and volunteers will create murals that reflect the values of community, diversity, and service. These murals will grace high-traffic areas such as hallways, cafeterias, and playgrounds. The creative journey begins with brainstorming workshops where students express their ideas and visions. These ideas will be sketched and refined in collaboration with artists, ensuring the murals truly represent the community's spirit.
We are in need of four (4) volunteers who will support Leonardo, the New York Edge Art Coordinator with the design, painting and installation of panels for the School Safety Desk Make-Over. The school safety area is the first area that a visitor sees when they enter the building and we want to make sure that the area is inviting, welcoming, and inclusive for all who visit.
The volunteers will paint the panels with the students and work with site staff to secure the panels to the desk.
The overarching goal of our beautification project of the main lobby is to develop interpersonal relationship skills, conflict resolution, design planning while creating a welcoming environment for all friends upon entering the building
