Sports Warehouse, Inc. is seeking a skilled HR Generalist to join our growing team. In this role, you'll play a key part in shaping our employee experience. We're looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a proactive attitude, and a knack for problem-solving.
Purpose of Position:
The Human Resources Generalist will support the daily functions of the Human Resources department, including employee relations, training and development, benefits/comp, and leave, and will act as a liaison between management and employees, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, and fostering a positive and productive work environment. The HR Generalist will also provide support in other various HR functions including recruitment and onboarding.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Employee Relations
- Act as a liaison between employees and management, addressing employee concerns, resolving conflict and documenting issues appropriately.
Organizational Development & Training
- Administer various human resources plans and procedures for all company personnel.
- Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department.
- Support training and development initiatives and assist with facilitation of training programs internally to service various departments and needs.
Performance Management
- Assist in the performance appraisal process, including providing guidance to managers with improvement plans as needed.
Compliance
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
Benefits Administration
- Assist with employee enrollments in company-sponsored employee benefits programs.
- Maintain accurate records of employee participation in benefits programs.
- Assist in educating employees about the benefits available to them.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Leaves of Absence
- Navigate employee requests for time off due to personal or medical reasons.
- Process leave requests.
- Maintain accurate records of employee absences.
- Communicate with employees and their managers about leave policies and procedure.
Worker Comp
- Report and handle Workers Compensation claims with carrier and provide managers with information regarding restrictions and returning to work updates.
- Monitor and record appropriate leave usage relative to Workers' Compensation benefits.
- Maintain OSHA records.
HRIS
- Maintain employee related databases within the HRIS with accuracy and consistency.
General HR Duties
- Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors/managers, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Assist various managers with matters related to employee disciplinary action.
- Assist in handling employee complaints.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
- Answer frequently asked questions and handle concerns from employees relative to standard policies, benefits, etc.; refers more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
- Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
- Perform periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
- Perform offboarding responsibilities for terminating employees.
- File documents into appropriate employee files and binders.
- Provide back up support for new hire onboarding functions.
- Set an example for excellent work ethic and accountability.
- Trouble shoot daily operational challenges when necessary and identify opportunities for improving procedures.
- Assist the Human Resources department with various tasks.
Requirements
- Ideally, 3-4 years of Human Resources experience as a Generalist or similar role.
- Bachelor’s degree recommended.
- Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of Human Resources and employment law.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with Paylocity is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.
Work Environment:
This role functions within a professional and collaborative office setting, regularly utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, tablets and phones for day-to-day tasks. The use of racquet stringing machines and related tools/supplies may also be required to support the needs of the business.
Physical Demands:
