Assistant Café Manager Job Description:

The Assistant Café Manager assists the Café Manager in running an efficient and profitable operation of a SPoT Coffee. The Assistant Café Manager is responsible for ensuring that the café meets Company standards in sales, staffing, product quality, visual merchandising, and operations. The Assistant Manager assists the Café Manager with the goal of providing guests with excellent, quality products and efficient service. This position enforces all procedures in the absence of the Café Manager and coordinates, as necessary, with the Corporate Office. Assistant Managers manage the training of SPoTters and Shift Managers. The Assistant Café Manager will be expected to have significant product knowledge and demonstrate positive, friendly and courteous customer service. You are the “acting manager” when the Café Manager is not in the café. This means that you will be the eyes and ears for the manager while they are not there. The Assistant Manager must be capable of carrying out all duties that the manager undertakes. You are a “manager in training.” As we do most of our hiring/promoting in-house, you are now training to one day manage your own café. Your Café Manager will depend on you to work in tandem with them to ensure the smooth and efficient operation that is necessary in achieving the best possible experience for our guests.

Assistant Café Manager Responsibilities:

  • All responsibilities of Shift and Kitchen Managers
  • Reinforce training for all new SPoT hires on each station
  • Test each SPoT hire as they learn each station
  • Manage daily bank deposits and cash balancing
  • Monitor inventory levels and placing orders with multiple vendors
  • Help resolve scheduling conflicts
  • Make sure that the café operations are in proper order
  • Assists Café Manager in managing a profitable cafe, reviewing controllable expenses, and monitoring labor costs
  • Partners with the Café Manager in creating sales volume growth and creating a positive guest experience
  • Assists Café Manager in planning and executing sales promotions and maintaining a positive community image
  • Delegates duties during downtime, as necessary, to Shift Managers and SPoTters
  • Performs financial documentation and register readings during shift• Assists Café Manager in writing a weekly schedule according to labor guidelines and considers any fluctuations in sales due to holidays or local events
  • Assists the Café Manager in maintaining proper loss prevention standards, reviewing cash handling procedures, deposits and safe procedures
  • Informs the Café Manager of any operational inconsistencies, employee incidents, accidents, potential safety hazards, or any unusual or pertinent events
  • Reports employee accidents and potential safety hazards to the Café Manager; completes appropriate paperwork, and recommends a proper course of action
  • Ensures that all team members are educated on our products and services, by developing an understanding of our various types of coffee, tea products, blends and roasts, as well as knowledge of coffee and tea regions, and the various differences in flavor and blends
  • Contributes information to the Café Manager on performance appraisals for team members they directly supervise
  • Ordering (Roastery, Eurocafe, etc.)
  • Tip Share and Distribution
  • Follows up with employees on any new procedures communicated by Café

Manager Assistant Café Manager Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Assistant management in a specialty café or food establishment preferred
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory or leadership experience, preferably with a specialty coffee store
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Provide excellent teamwork and support to employees
  • Hands-on experience with ordering ingredients
  • Some high volume espresso bar/cafe experience desired
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict management abilities • Flexibility to work during evenings and weekends
  • Uphold a high level of cleanliness
  • Ensure a top notch guest experience
  • Excellent knowledge of food safety and handling regulations
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of culinary basics and/or espresso drinks
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, in person and on the phone
  • Ability to complete jobs as assigned by management team
  • Demonstrates initiative, is forward-thinking, conscientious and provides follow-through on areas of responsibility
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, on your feet for duration of the shift
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and frequently bend and twist from the waist• Frequently required to use hand and finger motions, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms
  • Regularly required to handle food, hot beverages, and work with sharp objects
  • Must have excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Proficient on computers; familiar with programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Must be able to adjust vision to both day and night lighting, and be able to focus on distant and close-range projects. Regularly required to handle food, hot beverages, and work with sharp objects.
