What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Operator/Programmer position at Spot Zero?
Spot Zero is a rapidly growing water purification company in the yachting industry, located in Fort Lauderdale. We are currently looking to add a CNC Operator/Programmer to our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic and a team mentality.
The CNC Operator/Programmer will be responsible for the efficient and precise operation of CNC machinery such as a 4-axis horizontal mill and future lathe. Your role will involve programming, setting up, and operating the CNC machines to create parts essential for reverse osmosis systems, ensuring they meet our high standards for quality and performance.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Program R&D and production run quantities of various components in both SolidCAM and Mazatrol
- Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to understand the specifications and requirements of the design parts
- Perform regular maintenance checks on machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Keep a detailed maintenance log of the machine
- Keep a detailed log of replaced tools and average tool life
- Document production data and maintain records of work performed
- Troubleshoot issues with CNC machines and make adjustments as necessary
- Work closely with the engineering team to understand and implement design changes
- Ensure all manufactured parts meet quality standards and specifications through routine inspection
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with safety protocols
- Contribute to process improvements by recommending enhancements to machining processes, tooling, and workflow to increase efficiency and product quality
- Coordinate with inventory management to ensure the availability of necessary materials and tools, minimizing delays in production schedules
- Prepare and load materials and workpieces onto the machine, including the setup of tombstones for cutting operations
- Participate in team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and strategies for achieving production targets and improvements
- Provide accurate insight into project timelines about the machine
- Leverage industry contacts and expertise to recommend and evaluate manufacturing contractors for outsourcing opportunities, such as sheet metal parts
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Minimum High school diploma required; technical or trade school certification preferred
- Proficient in SolidCAM programming platform
- Familiar with Mazak CNC machines
- Proficient in Mazatrol programming
- An expert in CNC operation, preferably 4-axis milling and lathes
- Proven experience as a CNC operator or programmer, with a strong understanding of CNC machinery and tooling
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision
- Excellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to lift and bend frequently; must be able to routinely lift and move up to 50 lbs. without assistance; capable of working in indoor and outdoor settings
