Spotlight Power LLC is looking for a Real Time Energy Trader to join its growing power team based in Houston, Texas.
This position is responsible for supporting Spotlight Power’s Energy Management and Trading activity in the Real Time Power markets. The role will be responsible for managing existing positions from Day Ahead activity and well as generating income through Real Time Trading/Physical Arbitrage and the management and optimization of transmission positions. The position requires working 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide support to Spotlight Power’s Energy Management and Physical energy positions on 24/7/365 basis to ensure all positions and activity are performing as expected
Assist Day-Ahead Traders and Energy Managers with management and optimization of Spotlight’s positions and obligations, including offer strategy, fuel optimization, balancing, marketing and adjustments in ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, ISO NE, NYISO and non-ISO markets in the East
Coordinate all pertinent operational information to balancing authorities including unit availability, outage schedules, start-up and shutdown information, and communicate all necessary information to plant personnel, Independent System Operators, (ISOs), day-ahead personnel and customers
Provide P&L reports daily
Procure short term and longer-term transmission
Responsible for reliable trade entry and P&L reporting to management
Coordinate and communicate with Spotlights Day Ahead and Term trading groups
Complete a daily shift change report completed and distributed to the Power Team at the end of each shift that covers plant operations and other pertinent market information
Adhere to all company Risk Management Policies, staying within approved limits
Maintain all required certifications to perform the relevant duties in the various markets
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s or higher degree in Engineering, Business, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or another related field
One or more years’ experience with real time dispatch responsibilities preferred
Proficient with Microsoft Excel; VBA a plus
PJM Operator Generator Certification or the ability to pass the certification within 6 months of hire date
Understanding of the principles of North American Power and/or Gas markets a plus
Highest degree of punctuality and reliability
Proven ability to take appropriate action within time constraints
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must be able to work a 12-hour shift schedule as part of a 24-hour, 7-days a week team
