Spotsylvania's Career and Technical Center is seeking a highly skilled and qualified Instructor to plan and provide engaging learning experiences for students in the field of Cosmetology. Our Career and Technical Education Instructors develop and implement instructional programs that effectively provide the best possible education for each and every student. Additionally, this role will leverage strong communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and stakeholders to support student success.
Course Description(s)
Cosmetology I
This introductory course covers the fundamentals of hair, skin, and nail care. Students learn theoretical concepts and apply them in a clinical lab setting using manikins to develop manipulative skills. Key areas of instruction include personal safety, professionalism, and sanitation/disinfection; shampooing, conditioning, hair styling, and cutting techniques; introduction to chemical texture services; manicure and pedicure procedures; leadership and career skills through career and technical student organization (CTSO) activities; and high-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) opportunities with local businesses.
Cosmetology II
Building upon the foundational knowledge from Cosmetology I, students gain proficiency in advanced haircutting and styling on live models, safe application of chemical services, including permanent waves, relaxers, lightening, and hair coloring, skincare, facials, manicures, pedicures, and nail enhancements. Additional coursework will include and introduction to Salon Business Management and industry engagement through CTSO activities and HQWBL experiences. In the second year, the instructor plays a crucial role in preparing students to successfully take the State Board Cosmetology Credential exam.

Essential Functions
- Designs instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, industry, and curriculum goals as outlined by the VA Department of Education Career and Technical Education Programs
- Develops authentic, engaging, hands-on learning lessons and evaluates student progress; provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback; maintains appropriate records and prepare progress reports
- Implements a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff
- Fosters workplace readiness by incorporating career skills, professionalism, and industry expectations into daily instruction
- Develops and maintains contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals
- Develops, maintains, and supervises clinical experiences for Cosmetology students
- Remains current with changes that occur in the industry and discipline of Cosmetology Technicians
Required
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field of education -OR- the equivalent in credentialing, training, and/or applied trade experience
- Ability to obtain additional/appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
- Current (valid, not expired) Virginia Cosmetology License
- Two (2) years of successful experience as a Cosmetologist
- Currently possesses a Technical Professional License with a Cosmetology Endorsement
- Prior teaching experience within a vocational educational program
