Spotsylvania's Career and Technical Center is seeking a highly skilled and qualified Instructor to plan and provide engaging learning experiences for students in the field of HVAC-R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration). Our Career and Technical Education Instructors develop and implement instructional programs that effectively provide the best possible education for each and every student. Additionally, this role will leverage strong communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and stakeholders to support student success.
Course Description
HVACR I
Students will learn to professionally install, repair, and maintain HVACR systems while developing skills in piping, tubing, heat and electricity principles, and duct system installation. Instruction will emphasize compliance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and industry standards. Successful completion of this course sequence may prepare students for a career as an HVACR technician. High-quality work-based learning (HQWBL) experiences will be integrated with instruction and supported by local industry partnerships.
HVACR II
Building on HVACR I, students will deepen their understanding of heating and cooling systems, explore emerging technologies, and learn about energy conservation techniques. Instruction will cover EPA regulations, including systems with exempt and non-exempt refrigerants. This course prepares students for employment in various HVACR occupations. Students will also engage in HQWBL experiences and participate in CTSO activities to develop leadership and career skills.
Essential Functions :
- Designs instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, industry, and curriculum goals as outlined by the VA Department of Education Career and Technical Education Programs
- Develops authentic, engaging, hands-on learning lessons and evaluates student progress; provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback; maintains appropriate records and prepare progress reports
- Implements a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff
- Fosters workplace readiness by incorporating career skills, professionalism, and industry expectations into daily instruction
- Develops and maintains contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals
- Develops, maintains, and supervises clinical experiences for HVAC-R students
- Remains current with changes that occur in the industry and discipline of HVAC-R Maintenance Technicians

Employment Terms : Employment may be offered as a 10.5-month (210 Day) position. Additional compensation is awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
