Job Summary:
The School Security Officer assists in the overall maintenance of a safe environment by working alongside the administration and conducting surveillance of school buildings, grounds, and activities and ensuring the security of the school by enforcing established rules and regulations.
Essential Job Functions:
- Patrols hallways, stairwells, restrooms, and parking areas
- Checks hall passes of students going to and from class
- Monitors traffic and oversees the safety of students riding school buses and driving cars
- Checks parking permits of students and staff and reports violations to the office
- Maintains security during sporting events, lunch periods, and other activities
- Checks all windows, doors, and entrances of the building to make certain they are secured daily and reports any physical or mechanical damage to the school Premises to the principal
- Works with administration to investigate and report any unusual conditions, disturbances, or possible violations of Code of Student Conduct
- Performs other related duties assigned by principal or designee

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Expectations for students regarding conduct and behavior according to the Code of Student Conduct
- Relevant laws pertaining to liability, both personal and professional
- Mediation and conflict resolution practices
- Disaster and emergency response techniques and protocols
- School procedures and practices
- Laws pertaining to trespassing, breaking and entering, and destruction of property and other laws related to the security of school property
- Proper radio discipline and procedure
- Organize and maintain records

- Work cooperatively with students, teachers, and parents
- Exhibit well-developed observation skills as they relate to school security
- Enforce all school rules
- Provide support services to students and staff
- Use appropriate judgment in deciding when to contact a licensed professional for assistance
- Follow procedures as outlined by school board policy, the school principal, or designee
- Follow instructions and exercise basic problem solving skills when needed
- Communicate tactfully in written and oral modes
- Communicate professionally when referring information to local law enforcement
- Maintain confidentiality according to School Board Policy, as well as appropriate State, and Federal law.
Salary: This is a 10-month position with benefits.
