Job Summary
Lead the supervision of the Spotsylvania Public Schools (SCPS) hourly educational interpreters. Duties will be divided between direct interpreting and administrative responsibilities.

Essential Duties
  1. The Lead Educational Interpreter will:
  2. Organize and schedule translating and interpreting requests
  3. Assign interpreters to work sites for events such as parent conferences, extracurricular activities, meetings, etc.
  4. Collect and verify monthly timesheets for hourly interpreters
  5. Facilitate yearly training to SCPS interpreters that includes state and division policies/guidelines and the Code of Conduct
  6. Facilitate training regarding the role of the interpreter in the educational setting for administrators and staff members, namely but not exclusively with Special Education, Title I, Head Start, McKinney Vento, etc.
  7. Maintain a knowledge base of current trends and information (DOE regulations and VDDHH policies) in the field of interpreting
  8. Provide assistance to administrators with the observations and evaluations of interpreters and provide timely support for skill development.
  9. Provide expert services of interpreting/translating when the situation might demand for administrators and staff members
  10. Complete calls from/to parents /guardians/administrators/staff members who are requesting assistance
  11. Coordinate and provide alternatives for interpretation and translation needs when interpreters are absent or a less common language is spoken
  12. Schedule and proctor language proficiency testing for new interpreters
  13. Disseminate relevant information to interpreters and other appropriate staff members
  14. Maintain a lending library of technical information and support
  15. Collaborate with SCPS Human Resources Department to:
    • ensure that educational interpreters meet all state and division position requirements.
    • support the division's efforts to recruit qualified educational interpreters.
    • participate in the team interview process for interpreter applicants.
    • Use/learn technical computer skills needed for the daily activities.
    • Facilitate the resolution of differences and concerns that occur with interpreters, administrators, parents and students.
    • Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

The work involves physical effort encountered in normal, everyday activities including sitting, walking, standing, bending, reaching, or carrying light items (no more than 10 pounds). Work is subject to tight and changing schedules, may require serving the needs of several students/administrators or other personnel simultaneously and requires own transportation to travel between schools. Duties may be occasionally performed Remotely (RI), on field trips away from school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
Bachelor's Degree from an approved institution of higher learning preferred. Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as an educational interpreter.

Salary: This is a 10 month position with benefits. Starting salary $28,011
