Job Summary:
The Assistant Principal works alongside the Principal to provide leadership and support for the school's staff and students. The Assistant Principal plays a vital role in ensuring a positive learning environment, maximizing student achievement and implementing the total school program.
Essential Job Functions:
- Serves as an instructional leader with knowledge of secondary curriculum
- Effectively communicates and engages all stakeholders in teaching and learning
- Facilitates the learning of teachers in implementation of best practices to meet the needs of all learners
- Fosters collegiality and teamwork in the school improvement process
- Promotes collaboration and supports high-functioning professional learning communities
- Demonstrates ability to use effective disciplinary strategies with elementary students in a student-centered atmosphere that values safety
- Demonstrates effectiveness in the decision-making process

- Demonstrates organizational skills to serve as an effective instructional leader
- Fosters active community involvement and parental support in the teaching and learning process
- Embraces and advocates the use of technology in instructional practices
Education and Experience:
Required
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision
- Three (3) years of successful, full-time, teaching experience; two (2) in the level of education for which considered
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of best practices in curriculum design, assessment, and instruction across various grade levels.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and policies governing education, including student rights, special education, and labor relations.
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and collaborate with staff, students, and parents.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
SALARY: Employment may be offered as a 12-Month (243 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward additional degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
