Spotsylvania School Librarians serve five interrelated roles: teacher, instructional partner, program administrator, leader, and information specialist. The School Librarian manages the library as a flexible, multi-tasked learning environment and designs a school library program, establishing goals that ensure efficient operation and optimal service for all stakeholders. The School Librarian is responsive to the needs of all learners and establishes a stimulating, welcoming environment for students and faculty by promoting lifelong reading and designing authentic learning experiences focused on the effective use of information, research, and all forms of literacy.
Essential Functions:
- Designs coherent instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, the community, and curriculum goals;
- Evaluates students' progress; provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback; maintains appropriate records and prepares progress reports;
- Selects, evaluates, and refines a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies for the active engagement of students and improvement of student learning;
- Implements a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff;
- Works collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to support the success of a diverse student population;
- Models professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions;
- Performs related duties as assigned by the building administrator(s) in accordance with the school/division policies and practices.

Education and Experience:
Required
- Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
- An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.
Preferred
- Master's degree with a Postgraduate Certification in School Librarianship from an accredited college or university
- Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)
- Prior experience serving as a School Librarian within a public school system

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 10.5 (220 Day) contract, at minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
