The Homebound Instructor instructs students who are unable to attend school and ensures that homebound students benefit from an ongoing educational program by performing the following duties.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides instruction to homebound students outside the school setting in a facility appropriate to the student’s needs.
- Develops a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), if applicable.
- Supports case management of students assigned to all aspects of the special education process – eligibility, reevaluation, IEP development, functional behavioral assessments (FBAs), and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
- Provides the instructional program for the student including appropriate aids and materials.
- Provides, in cooperation with school personnel, periodic reports on the student’s progress in a manner consistent with the reporting practices of the division.
- Coordinates with division personnel in the successful return of the student to the regular education program or another special education program.
- Meets the assigned student on an agreed upon schedule for the purpose of instruction.
- Establishes a cooperative, working relationship with the student’s family.

Education and Experience:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
- An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.
Preferred
- Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)
- Prior teaching experience within a public school system

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as an hourly support position. The schedule for this position will be considered part-time and structured on an hourly, as needed basis. This position is evaluated annually.
