Spoyslvania County Public Schools is seeking School Nurses for the 2025-2026 School Year. This position provides nursing services to the student population in various environments and works collaboratively with school staff, parents, guardians, and healthcare providers to meet the health care needs of students for the purpose of minimizing absences due to illness, maximizing education opportunities, and creating a healthy school climate.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assesses student health needs to develop appropriate nursing care plans, determine when sick or injured children should be sent home, seek follow-up medical care, and or be referred for emergency transport to a hospital setting
- Administers first aid, emergency aid, medication, specialized medical procedures, and health screenings based on State of Virginia regulations and statutes governing nursing and school health, as well as SCPS policy
- Reviews, updates, and maintains a cumulative health record for all students
- Serves as the medical liaison for special education students (e.g. performing vision and hearing assessment for triennial reassessments, reviews the health and developmental history of each child, attends individualized education program meetings as needed, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state mandates
- Collaborates with parents/guardians, healthcare providers, teachers, multidisciplinary
- professional staff to implement individualized student care, particularly for students with chronic conditions
- Collaborates with healthcare providers, staff, and families to implement and maintain up to date health care plans, 504 plans, and IEPs for students
- Functions as a liaison between students, parent/guardians, staff, and healthcare providers to promote access to care and or coordinate care
- Promotes student independence by establishing care goals, teaching and counseling students, parents/guardians, and staff to reinforce understanding of disease and self-care

Education and Experience:
Required
- Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
- Current (valid, not expired) Registered Nurse (RN) License held within the state of Virginia or other compact state
- Ability to obtain additional license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
- Experience in school, pediatric, public, or community health nursing
- Current (valid, not-expired) BLS CPR certification
Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
- National School Nurse Certification (NBCSN)

Employment Terms: An employee may be offered a 10-Month (190 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually. Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
