Spotsylvania Career and Technical Center is seeking a highly skilled and qualified Sports and Health Science Instructor to join our growing school division for the 2025-2026 school year. Under the direction of the SCTC Principal, our CTE Instructors plan and provide authentic, engaging, hands-on learning experiences for students. In this role, you will ensure that students learn practical skills to work in the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training field. The Sports Medicine/Athletic Training program emphasizes safety, procedures, equipment and tool use while preparing students to take their industry credential through the following curriculum:
Sports Medicine/Athletic Training I
Sports Medicine/Athletic Training II
Essential Functions:
- Designs coherent instruction and authentic, engaging, hands-on learning lessons based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, the community, and curriculum goals outlined by the Virginia Department of Education Career and Technical Education Programs
- Plans instruction to achieve desired objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines as outlined by the Virginia Department of Education Career and Technical Education Programs
- Implements a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff
- Evaluates students' progress; provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback, maintains appropriate records and prepares progress reports
- Uses a variety of assessment strategies and instruments to make both short-term and long-range instructional decisions to improve student learning
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Spotsylvania County School Board policy, the Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services, and administrative regulation
- Develops and maintains contacts and partnerships with local industry professionals
- Remains current with changes that occur in the industry and discipline of Sports Medicine/Athletic Training Industry

Education and Experience:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, or a related field -OR- Current (valid, not-expired) Health Occupations Certificate
- Two (2) years of recent, relevant professional experience in sports medicine, athletic training, or a related healthcare field
- Licensed as an Athletic Trainer by the Virginia Board of Medicine
- Current (valid, not-expired) CPR Certification
- Ability to obtain additional/appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
Preferred
- Master's Degree in Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, or a related field
- Currently possesses a Technical Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)
- Prior teaching experience within a vocational educational program

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 10.5-month (210 Day) position. Additional compensation is awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees. New employees to Spotsylvania County will be compensated for up to 20 years of experience.
