What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Registrar position at Spotsylvania County?
**PT position through most of the year, but hours will be increased during election cycles and early voting for all elections.**
- Online processing of voter registrations and change of address/transfer requests, felons, and deaths with other record processing by entering, scanning, and verification methods.
- Files and scans registration cards, voter registrations, and records.
- Modifies and sorts registrations from DMV, and other agencies, in-person and by mail.
- Processes absentee ballot applications; assists in packaging and mailing ballots for Elections.
- Verify the validity of returned ballots, processes, and checks in ballots as required.
- Assists with in-person absentee/early voting procedures.
- Answers inquiries and correspondence as required by providing excellent daily customer service; answers phones, greets and serves citizens, and processes office mail.
- Assists with coordinating and conducting citizen events/ voter registration drives.
- Assists with the preparation of Election Day and tabulation of election results processes.
- Assists with maintaining, preparation, and programing electronic poll books as well as additional election equipment/supplies (training provided).
- Assists with testing, programming, and maintenance of voting machines (training provided).
- Serves as backup for opening/closing of early voting location.
- Provides support with precinct preparation or supplies on election day.
- Provides technical support as needed (training provided).
- Performs other related duties as required.
Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license and be a registered voter in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Knowledge of the methods, procedures, and policies of Spotsylvania County as such pertains to the performance of the essential duties of Assistant Registrar’s position in the Registrar’s office.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of assisting in voter registration and election processes.
- Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Knowledge of the organization of the department, and related departments and agencies.
- Knowledge and understanding of any occupational hazards and adhering to any safety precautions inherent in performing the essential functions of the work.
- Knowledge of terminology and related professional languages used within the department as such pertains to work responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain cooperative and effective relationships with intra- and interdepartmental personnel, as well as any external entities with whom the position interacts.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines which includes a calculator, computer, laptop, printer, postage machine, fax machine, voting scanners, etc. Must be able to physically operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for periods of time. Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape. Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using automated office equipment. Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Does not require the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving the nature of sounds by ear).
