What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pool Admissions Worker position at Spotsylvania County?
Under general supervision, responsible for collecting admission fees at the swimming pool facility. Hours will vary and will require evening and weekend shifts. Reports to the Special Events and Leisure Programmer or Designee.
- Supports the mission, vision, and goals of the Spotsylvania County Parks & Recreation Department.
- Verifies residency, calculates admission fees, receives monies from patrons, and provides correct change. Monitors patron counts for attendance information.
- Enforces admission rules and manages admissions for each patron (cash or pool pass).
- Responds immediately and effectively to any pool emergency, reporting the emergency immediately to the supervisor, and assisting with reporting.
- Communicates pool rules and policies in a professional and courteous manner to pool participants.
- Inspects safety equipment. At the beginning of shift, ensures all safety equipment is in the proper place and ready for use.
- Reports damaged equipment and, if possible, remove it.
- Wears proper uniform (County issued) and represents Spotsylvania Parks & Recreation Dept. in a professional manner at all times.
- Answers questions on available parks and recreation programs including swim lessons, admission info, operational hours, and park information.
- Maintains required certifications.
- Attends mandatory staff meetings and in-service training.
- Counts cash set up before each shift and balances drawer at the end of each shift. Runs appropriate reports and completes paperwork. Reports any discrepancies to the supervisor immediately. Operates cash register for admission and/or customer purchases; counts money to verify amounts and compares totals on cash register receipts with the amount of currency to verify balances. Keeps admissions area clean and cash drawer organized.
- Ensures monies are secure at all times.
- Monitors vending area, restrooms, and deck area for litter and sanitizing needs while walking through the facility.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Must be 16 years of age or older.
CPR for the Professional Rescuer CPR/First Aid /AED preferred.
Must successfully complete mandatory Parks & Recreation Training Program before specific job duties are assigned.
Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and a drug screen
Must have knowledge of the fundamentals of financial record keeping and methods of performing basic business mathematic calculations or any combination of education and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for successful performance. Familiar with cashier duties requiring independent judgment with speed and accuracy; maintaining records; posting data and making arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
- Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, rules, and regulations for the swimming pool facility and park.
- Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with the Parks & Recreation Pool Operating Procedures Manual.
- Skill in handling money and working with people.
- Ability to perform First Aid when needed.
- Ability to complete written reports in the prescribed format.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines such as cash register, calculator, and telephone. Tasks require the ability to exert light to medium physical effort which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to five (5) pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with job-related equipment. Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes to handle a variety of items, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating the other hand with different activities. Must have minimal/ levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. May require the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving the nature of sounds by ear).
