Spotts, Stevens and McCoy is currently recruiting for a Graduate/Junior Structural Engineer to join our Facilities Engineering team to develop solutions and designs for a wide variety of building projects in the industrial, research, and municipal construction sectors. Working collaboratively with our Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers on multi-discipline studies, the structural department investigates existing building structural systems, components, building envelopes, on planning, design and construction documentation of new and older structures. You will work on many diverse projects, both large, complex projects with a seasoned team, and small projects where you’ll be encouraged to work independently under the mentorship of senior engineers. Our team rarely works on “cookie-cutter” projects, relying on creative solutions for unique challenges.
Primary Responsibilities
- Visit project sites to review and document existing conditions as appropriate to facilitate the design of improvements.
- Develops structural engineering project planning and design with an understanding of construction.
- Specifies structural components needed; responsible for managing all phases of project development through construction.
- Reviews and analyzes structural project requirements as indicated in engineering sketches, drawings, and notes.
- Reviews recommendations of the project team and/or devises improvements in method and use of materials.
- Coordination across engineering disciplines within the company to achieve project goals.
- Prepares proposals, cost estimates, engineering reports, feasibility studies, bidding documents, and specifications.
- Reviewing and editing project specifications.
- May conduct field observations of completed work or work in progress to document conformity with project documents.
- Mentors Graduate Engineers in the fundamentals and practice of engineering.
- Occasional travel out of the area.
Requirements
- B.S. in Civil/Structural or Architectural Engineering from an ABET Accredited School.
- 3-8 years' structural engineering experience and knowledge of applicable codes.
- EIT or PE preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD; Revit knowledge a plus.
- Knowledge of modeling and design software as applicable.
This position is based out of our Reading PA office; however, there my be flexibility for a hybrid-remote work model.
