Sprayberry Animal Hospital is seeking a Kennel Technician to join our dynamic team. This full-time position is responsible for providing the highest level of care and attention to pets staying at our boarding facility. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, reliable, and detail-oriented, with a strong work ethic and a passion for working with animals. Previous experience in a boarding or kennel environment, especially in a veterinary hospital setting, is highly preferred, but we are willing to train motivated individuals who are eager to learn and grow.

As a Kennel Technician , you will be an integral part of our team, supporting our kennel operations and ensuring pets have a comfortable, safe, and stress-free experience during their stay. This position requires flexibility, including the ability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts to meet the needs of the hospital and our clients.

Job Type : Full-Time (Flexible schedule, weekends and holidays required with a rotating schedule)

Pay Range : $14.00 - $16.00 per hour (Based on experience)

Key Responsibilities

Pet Care & Comfort :

  • Feed, water, and monitor the well-being of all pets boarding with us.
  • Provide individual attention, companionship, and exercise for pets to ensure their comfort and reduce stress.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinary staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of all kennels, play areas, and pet bedding.

Facility Maintenance :

  • Clean and disinfect kennels, food and water bowls, and all other boarding areas.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the facility, including sweeping, mopping, and maintaining sanitary conditions throughout the kennel.
  • Monitor and report any potential health concerns or changes in behavior to veterinary staff.
  • Customer Interaction :

  • Greet pet owners, check in and check out pets, and provide updates on the well-being of their pets.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to ensure their pets' needs are met during their stay.
  • Animal Monitoring & Safety :

  • Monitor the behavior of all boarded animals, ensuring safety for both pets and staff.
  • Ensure pets are properly secured in their kennels and are supervised during playtime and exercise.
  • Report any signs of illness, injury, or distress to the veterinary team promptly.
  • Team Collaboration :

  • Work closely with veterinary staff, including veterinarians and veterinary technicians, to ensure all pets in boarding receive the appropriate care and attention.
  • Help train and mentor new kennel staff as needed.
  • Support the team with various tasks, such as taking out the trash, handling laundry, or organizing supplies.
  • Administrative Support :

  • Maintain accurate records of pets' health, feeding schedules, medications, and any special needs.
  • Assist with client check-in / check-out paperwork and billing as needed.
  • Skills, Knowledge & Expertise to be Successful

    Preferred Experience :

  • Previous experience working in a kennel, animal shelter, or veterinary hospital setting is highly preferred.
  • Experience with animal care, including feeding, administering medications, and handling different types of animals (dogs, cats, etc.).
  • Required Skills & Attributes :

  • Passion for animals and a strong desire to provide exceptional care.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with both pets and clients.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under the guidance of veterinary staff.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of animal behavior and body language.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds (e.g., lifting bags of food, cleaning supplies, or assisting larger animals).
  • Ability to walk, stand, and bend for extended periods of time.
  • Comfort working around animals, including those with varying temperaments and medical needs.
  • Work Schedule Flexibility :

  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as required to meet the needs of the business and boarded pets.
