Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care : Provide hands-on support in the examination, treatment, and care of animals, including routine exams, diagnostics, and medical procedures.
- Clinical Duties : Perform essential veterinary tasks, including blood draws , catheter placements , radiographs , laboratory sample preparation , and surgical assistance .
- Client Education : Communicate effectively with pet owners about their animals' conditions, treatment plans, and home care instructions, ensuring clear understanding and building trust.
- Monitoring & Recovery : Monitor patients during anesthesia, assist in recovery from procedures, and ensure the comfort and well-being of hospitalized patients.
- Medication Administration : Administer prescribed medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians, including oral, subcutaneous (SQ), and intravenous (IV) medications.
- Support and Coordination : Work collaboratively with veterinary staff, including veterinarians and other technicians, to ensure smooth workflow and high-quality care.
- Maintain Clean & Safe Environment : Assist in maintaining clean and organized examination rooms, surgical areas, and hospital spaces, adhering to sanitation and safety protocols.
- Inventory Management : Assist with maintaining inventory of medical supplies and medications, ensuring they are well-stocked and ready for use.
- Customer Service : Provide excellent customer service by greeting clients, answering questions, and ensuring that clients feel valued and informed.
- Record Keeping : Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for patients, ensuring all information is entered promptly and correctly.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Experience : Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician in a clinical setting is preferred. Strong technical skills in areas such as phlebotomy, anesthesia monitoring, and surgical assistance.
Certification : Certification as a Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, or CVT) is preferred but not required.
Education : High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited veterinary technology program is preferred.
