Job Summary:
Spriggs Excavation, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Superintendent to oversee all jobsite activities and safety for projects under SEI’s scope of work. The Civil Superintendent will work closely with the Project Manager to coordinate and supervise all vendors, subcontractors, and SEI staff assigned to the project. This leadership position requires active participation in project planning, construction, and execution to ensure successful project completion. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering professional relationships with clients, subcontractors, and all on-site personnel while upholding SEI's Core Values.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise SEI crew members, ensuring work schedules, project progress, and resource allocation are effectively managed.
- Conduct timely performance evaluations for SEI staff and provide constructive feedback to foster improvement and development.
- Address employee complaints and grievances, administer disciplinary actions as needed, and maintain detailed production records.
- Facilitate strong, professional relationships with clients and ensure SEI’s team maintains positive relations with clients, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of equipment under SEI’s control, optimizing equipment application for project needs.
- Develop and execute work plans for SEI crew members, detailing individual responsibilities, tasks, and necessary resources to achieve project goals.
- Oversee all aspects of construction from project initiation through to completion, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
- Manage the mobilization and deployment of tools and construction equipment as required.
- Conduct regular inspections of all SEI equipment, identifying and reporting maintenance or repair needs to ensure optimal performance.
- Enforce adherence to all safety rules, regulations, and SEI policies to ensure a safe working environment.
- Maintain accurate project records, including daily logs, T&M, manpower tracking, and materials usage.
- Review and approve SEI staff timecards through Paycom.
- Assist the Project Manager in maintaining the established budget and monitoring labor hours and production.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of heavy equipment operations and maintenance, with a thorough understanding of safety protocols.
- Superior skills in operating assigned machinery safely and efficiently.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage teams effectively.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate responsibilities appropriately.
- Experience with GPS technology.
- Good judgment and strong decision-making capabilities.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and meet Fleet Policy requirements.
- Proven experience operating all types of heavy equipment.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
- At least five years of experience in heavy equipment operations and civil construction.
- Workplace safety training and practices required.
- CDL preferred.
- Topcon experience is a plus.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to travel on short notice and work in various locations.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery for extended periods, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions and terrains.
- Ability to lift to 60 pounds as needed.
