Human Resources Specialist
$60,000 - $90,000 DOE
Reports to: Director of Operations
This is a full-time position in our office, located in Durango, CO.

Job Summary:
The Human Resources Specialist will assist in the development of existing policies and ensure legal compliance for the company, with a strong emphasis on benefits administration and compliance. Additionally, this position will mange and implement our 401k and health benefits programs. The role requires collaboration with senior leadership to meet the organization's goals related to company benefits, staffing, recruiting, and retention.
Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance to senior leadership on workplace regulations and state-specific laws to ensure the company remains complaint with all legal requirements.
- Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training new staff.
- Track performance evaluations.
- Facilitate and record discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
- Provide support and guidance to staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise. May be required to administer and execute tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
- Oversee and administer programs including, but not limited to, retirement (401K), and health benefits.
- Assist employees with benefits and retirement enrollment.
- Support new hires in benefit enrollment
- Onboard new employees and ensure they have the necessary tools in place for their role by their start date
- Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommend best practices. Accordingly, modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Set up and manage payroll deductions for benefits and 401k.
- Perform other duties as required.

- Familiarity with state and federal employment laws.
Education and Experience:
- Two years of experience in a human resources role required.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field preferred.
- Experience in benefits management required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
