Summary
This position provides clinical leadership and expertise to maintain high standards of patient care. The Assistant Medical Director will provide input in development of standards, policies, and procedures for clinical practice in the health center. This position is also responsible for maintaining relationships with referring physicians to ensure timely follow-up regarding patient consults and to maintain a culture of collaboration among specialists, primary care physicians, nurses, and other staff to meet the needs of patients.
Qualifications

The Assistant Medical Director will provide input in development of standards, policies, and procedures for clinical practice in the health center. This position is also responsible for maintaining relationships with referring physicians to ensure timely follow-up regarding patient consults and to maintain a culture of collaboration among specialists, primary care physicians, nurses, and other staff to meet the needs of patients.
Qualifications
- Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine.
- Current unrestricted license from the Texas Medical Board to practice as a physician in the State of Texas.
- Annual continuing medical education as required by Board specialty.
- Must be registered and have current DEA, and other such certificates to legally operate a practitioner in the State of Texas.
- Hospital privileges at designated area hospitals if required for specialty.
- Certified BLS or BLS equivalent.
- Proficiency in Computer Skills and Electronic Health Records.
- Bilingual – English/Spanish is preferred.
- Render professional services within the scope of Assistant Medical Director’s training and responsibility, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations (i.e. federal, state, local, or otherwise), and current standards of medical practice.
- Assistant Medical Director shall provide appropriate, continuous care and supervision to.
- Assistant Medical Director will direct and coordinate the diagnostic and treatment services of patients.
- Assistant Medical Director will assist the Medical Director in implementing the Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to medical practice.
- Assistant Medical Director updates medical alert information for the medical staff under his or her supervision, including CDC guidelines and infectious disease outbreaks in Spring Branch Community Health Center’s service area, as well as information released by pharmaceutical companies regarding adverse effects, recalls, etc.
- Other Clinical Supervision responsibilities:
- Shall provide supervision of subordinate providers and be available for questions pertaining to diagnoses and treatment of patients.
- Will establish and maintain a system for chart review of patient care given by subordinate providers under his or her direct supervision. Assistant Medical Director will promote accurate, informative and complete documentation by providers under his or her supervision.
- Shall oversee and participate equally with the other Medical Providers approved by SBCHC in providing call coverage.
- In addition to rendering care to patients, Assistant Medical Director shall perform such administrative duties, as may be necessary to assure the efficient operation of the Practice.
- Assistant Medical Director shall enforce the standards and policies for all SBCHC clinics.
- Will promote staff and provider compliance with UDS, Meaningful Use, Grant Measurements etc.
- Will establish a mechanism by which the test results and pertinent correspondence on patients of absent providers, under his or her supervision, are evaluated such that a timely decision needs to be made, and appropriate care implemented before the provider returns.
- Complete timely evaluations on providers or staff under his or her direct supervision.
- Approval of time off and timecards for providers under supervision.
- Assistant Medical Director may be called upon to assume the duties of the Chief Medical Officer in the event of prolonged illness, absence, sabbatical or other indisposition, that may arise. Such duties will be temporary until the Chief Medical Officer returns or is replaced.
- Attends and participates in clinic meetings/departmental meetings and other clinic functions as required by the Health Center.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
