Position Description : SUMMARY OF POSITION :
Our Public Safety Officers work hard to keep our community safe and secure. As an Armed Public Safety Officer, you will be responsible for patrolling the Spring Creek Towers complex, responding to emergencies, and assisting our residents.
Our officers are represented by the 32BJ Union, which means you will have access to excellent benefits and job protection. You'll also have the opportunity to earn a competitive salary starting at $24.84 per hour as of March 1, 2025. After 30 months of service, your salary will increase to $31.05 per hour.

REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES :
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements :
Must be 21 years or older
Must possess a valid NYS Security Guard License
Must possess a Valid NYS Drivers license with no restrictions or serious traffic violations
Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent US resident
Must be a resident of New York City
Must be able to pass extensive background checks conducted by the NYPD to obtain Special Patrolman status and Restricted Firearms Carry license
EDUCATION / WORK REQUIREMENTS :
High School or GED Required
Must be able to complete the 162-hour New York State Criminal Justice Bureau Basic Peace Officer course including the academic and physical tactics portions of the curriculum
60 College credits preferred but not required
Security or Law Enforcement experience preferred
Military experience preferred
COMPREHENSION & COMMUNICATION SKILLS :
Ability to read, analyze, procedure manuals, property standards, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from residents and visitors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as hours worked, percentages, etc.
ANALYTICAL SKILLS :
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited information exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to use discretion and exhibit high level of confidentiality.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
Candidates must be able to meet intense physical prerequisites, showing speed, strength, and agility. Must be able to walk for an extended number of hours a day in all weather conditions, climb twenty flights of stairs and have the ability to defend themselves and others.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
- Outdoor work environment. All hours of the day and night in all types of weather.
- Reporting to the shift / tour Platoon Commander (Lieutenant), and Patrol Supervisors on that tour (Sergeant), perform duty in uniform as indicated on roll call or as directed by competent authority.
- Immediately after roll call, proceed to post, sector or assignment as directed by Supervisor.
- Upon initial arrival to post, and frequently and irregularly throughout assigned tour, inspect entire post for conditions that require DPS attention.
- Report to Supervisor via portable radio whenever a condition is observed that warrants DPS response / attention / correction.
- Correct conditions / deficiencies observed. Request Supervision / additional assistance as necessary / desired. While handling / addressing any condition, always ensure that the safety of ALL is paramount.
- Notify Supervisor when / how condition was addressed / corrected.
- Notify Dispatcher of other conditions observed for proper, immediate response by proper authority (such as Maintenance, Property Management, etc.).
- Ensure positive interaction with all encountered on patrol, including the Community, fellow employees, etc.
- Render all necessary Public Safety service in assigned area and as otherwise directed.
- Investigate suspicious conditions and circumstances on the post, give special attention to crime hazards.
- Always be cognizant of surroundings and current location.
- Ensure all required reports / documents for events encountered and memo book entries are made neatly, clearly and accurately throughout tour.
- Lead by Example on patrol by fostering the platoons continuous goal of incident and crime reduction and prevention, and improved community relations and customer satisfaction.
Essential Functions & Compensation
This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). As of March 1, 2025 the starting pay is $24.84 per hour and pay will increase to $31.05 after completing 30 months of service.
