- Plan for and carry out remedial instructional interventions to address the identified needs of elementary students.
- Coordinate, collaborate, train, and assist the teaching staff in meeting the specific instructional needs of identified students who are not meeting grade level expectations in reading.
- Understand and maintain compliance with all state, federal, or local regulations regarding Title funded programs.
- Assess and/or analyze initial and ongoing individual student needs for those students identified not meeting grade level expectations in reading.
- Monitor the progress of each assigned pupil, collaborate with the regular classroom teacher regarding appropriate teaching techniques aimed at maximizing learning, and apply these techniques when working with students, if appropriate.
- Model effective strategies relative to the teaching of literacy through the teaching of demonstration lessons, staff development workshops, and the provision of research data.
- Maintain a safe environment, which is conducive to learning, and report incidents that detract from the learning environment.
- Report individual student progress in a fair and consistent manner.
- Schedule and participate in meetings with parents, teachers, other professional staff, and administrators as necessary to support student progress.
- Provide education and resources to parents to assist with developing and practicing literacy skills.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in staff development activities provided and/or suggested by the district.
- Participate in district curriculum development activities.
- Participate in building and district level committee meetings.
- Maintain professionalism at all times when in contact with the public.
- Utilize available district support services.

To function as an elementary reading specialist. Literacy intervention may include, but is not limited to: Title I reading interventions, consultation regarding students who are not meeting grade level expectations in the area of reading, support for students who are not meeting grade level expectations in reading, and staff development relative to the teaching of literacy at this level.
Job Summary:
Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate
Certification as a reading specialist
Valid Pennsylvania driver's license
Possess the ability to work cooperatively with others.
Maturity and the ability to deal effectively with students and staff.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently within the limits of assigned responsibilities.
Understands the importance of and can practice confidentiality.
Comfortable with following specific rules and regulations as they apply to the discipline procedures of the building.
Receipt of current, favorable clearances including: Pennsylvania State Criminal History (Act 34), Federal Criminal History (FBI – Fingerprinting - Act 114), Pennsylvania Child Abuse (Act 151), and Sexual Misconduct and Abuse Disclosures (Act 168).
