    Description:
    To assist the administration in providing services to students that support their educational, personal, social, emotional, and career development.

    Job Summary:
    • Provide students with counseling services in relationship to:
      • personal / social / emotional issues
      • academic / educational concerns
      • career awareness / development
    • Present classroom lessons in accordance with the goals of the school's counseling program.
    • Conduct small group counseling sessions and individual counseling sessions as necessary to address the identified needs of the student
    • Provide assessment of students who appear to be in crisis and make appropriate referrals to assure the safety of the student.
    • Serve as a consultant to parents:
      • provide information concerning daily operations of the school
      • review individual student assessments and screenings
      • respond to concerns expressed regarding their child's educational program
      • discuss potential need for interventions (social / emotional / academic
    • Monitor student records (permanent record folders) with documentation of existence of additional student specific information (i.e. confidential folders, IEP, service agreements/504 plans, individual health care plans, custody agreements, court orders, etc.)
    • Case manage service agreements and 504 plans.
    • Monitor and report student progress in a fair, consistent manner.
      • Review all progress reports indicating academic difficulty
      • Evaluate advancement toward graduation
      • Schedule conferences with students to discuss academic progress, career interest and preparation
      • Supervise the distribution of progress reports and grade reporting periods.
    • Coordinate the transfer and orientation of student(s) entering/exiting the District or being transferred to an alternate educational placement and assist in the transfer of records/information to facilitate the student's placement as expeditiously as possible.
    • Support the scheduling process:
      • Make appropriate changes to the student schedules to accommodate special needs.
      • Schedule new students, through coordination with information received from sending school.
    • Recommend courses and programs to align with student career aspirations and past academic performance.
    • Participate in implementation of PA Chapter 339 standards and district plan.
    • Monitor the position(s) of Classified Staff assigned to assist with the counseling program and communicate the effectiveness of their service to the Building Administrator.
    • Serve as a resource for classroom teachers and other professionals as needed in regard to information, ideas, and recommendation of techniques and materials to meet individual student or classroom needs or other counseling related matters.
    • Act as a liaison for students in need of support services from other district personnel, intermediate unit, MHMR, SAP or other outside agency staff members.
    • Assist the building administration in the proctoring of assessments and the administration of make-up assessments:
      • Standardized Testing Programs
      • State Testing Programs
    • Plan and schedule for the administration of:
      • Vocational Testing /Inventories
      • Career Aptitude Tests
      • Charting of Career Pathways
      • PSAT/SAT/Advanced Placement
      • Gifted Screenings
    • Maintain a positive working relationship and professionalism at all times, when meeting with parents, teachers, students, and administration.
    • Work cooperatively with the administration in the identification of students requiring special services, completion of the pre-referral process, the development of individual plans, and the implementation of programs and initiatives that meet the identified goals of the plans. When necessary, this may include conducting classroom observations, individual screenings, compiling preliminary referral information.
    • Monitor students on homebound instruction or students entering/exiting or being transferred to an alternate educational placement or assigned to other facilities by outside agencies (i.e. Children and Youth, Police. Probation, etc.)
      • Provide coordination between the general teacher and the teacher responsible for providing homebound services
      • Provide coordination between the general teacher and the students' alternate educational placement
    • Assist in the organization and implementation of a transition program for students when transferring between District facilities / grade levels.
    • Participate in staff and faculty meetings in order to highlight upcoming guidance events.
    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, Multi-Disciplinary Team Meetings, Instructional / Student Support Team meetings, student attendance improvement plan meetings, and IEP/service agreement Conferences as deemed appropriate.
    • Maintain a safe environment, which is conducive to learning. Factors beyond the counselor's control that detract from the environment should be reported to the appropriate staff.
    • Maintain professional competence through participation in staff development, curriculum development, in-service presentations, building level meetings and district level meetings.
    • Serve as counseling support for specialized classes / programs when these are identified as a core area of responsibility.
    • Perform other such duties as assigned by the building administrator/Director of Pupil Services.
    Qualifications:
    TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
    Master's Degree in Counseling or related area.
    A valid PA School Counseling Certificate.
    A minimum of three years of experience in an educational setting (preferred).

    GENERAL
    Possess the ability to work cooperatively with others.
    Maturity and the ability to deal effectively with students and staff.
    Self-motivated with the ability to work independently within the limits of assigned responsibilities. Understands the importance of and can practice confidentiality.
    Comfortable with following specific rules and regulations as they apply to the discipline procedures of the building.
    Receipt of current, favorable clearances including: Pennsylvania State Criminal History (Act 34), Federal Criminal History (FBI – Fingerprinting - Act 114), Pennsylvania Child Abuse (Act 151), and Sexual Misconduct and Abuse Disclosures (Act 168).
