JOB TITLE: Senior Accountant-Payroll
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Business Services
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
PAYGRADE: AM 4
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The primary responsibility for the Senior Accountant - Payroll position is developing systems and procedures to ensure the accuracy and balancing of payroll, as well as the accuracy of payroll transactions recorded on the general ledger.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university
- Three years of accounting experience
Preferred:
- TASBO certification
- Five years of payroll or job-related experience
- Familiarity with E Finance, TimeClock Plus and AESOP software
- Knowledge of the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) eligibility and reporting process
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal requirements relating to payroll issues and reports
- Knowledge of payroll accounting and auditing principles
- Knowledge of standard accounting requirements

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Reconcile Teacher Retirement System (TRS) payments to the general ledger on a monthly basis
- Reconcile all liabilities generated through payroll including payroll taxes, benefits and other payroll related deductions
- Gather data and prepare monthly KPI reports for payroll related transactions
- Process payroll redistributions
- Monitor payroll charges to program intent codes including but not limited to Career & Technical Education, Special Education, State Compensatory Education, etc. to ensure compliance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) spending requirements and work alongside program managers and personnel in other departments to ensure timely corrections
- Responsible for ensuring payroll transactions are properly recorded to the general ledger and tie to applicable supporting documentation
- Develop and monitor processes to improve the accuracy of payroll transactions
- Perform all other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting and prolonged use of a computer, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require traveling within the district. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; Interface with all levels of leadership, dynamic environment with changing priorities and occasional irregular hours. Ability to be effective in both oral and written communication and the ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to work independently.
