JOB TITLE: Specialist-Certification
REPORTS TO: Director- Educator Certification and Teacher Pipelines
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non-Exempt
PAY GRADE: Para 7
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Human Resources Certification Specialist communicates federal and state requirements as it relates to the hiring and staffing of instructional personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- HS Diploma from an accredited institution
- 2 years experience Human Resources or job-related experience
Preferred:
- 60 hours from an accredited college or university
- 3 years experience Human Resources K-12
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Knowledge of Texas Education Agency Certification requirements
- Proficient Microsoft Office
- Office equipment (e.g. computer, copier)
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Communicate with employees regarding expiring and renewing certifications
- Monitor and communicate the progress of identified teachers to administrators throughout the school year who need to renew their certification
- Track newly hired employees whose certification has not been issued to ensure timely issuing of certification per the TEA website
- Input permit requests for the State Board of Educator Certification
- Upload FASTPASS for non-certified employees to TEA website
- Partner with Alternative Certification Programs to verify teacher eligibility
- Maintain certification status of teachers and teacher’s aides in the district data management system.
- Audit and approve certification eligibility for all new hires and for current
- Certify/monitor the professional credentials and certification status of teachers and other certified staff members in conjunction with the Human Resource Business
- Maintain records and provide reports as may be requested or required, pertaining to personnel in the designated certified
- Evaluate transcripts(s) and verify that their degree is conferred, in the content area per the qualifications on the job
- Monitor all new TEA certification updates and rule changes per TAC
- Serve as the liaison person with the Texas Education Agency concerning state rules and classroom teaching certification
- Conduct test monitor certification
- Performs all other duties as
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
