JOB TITLE: Specialist- Curriculum ELAR (ES, MS, HS)
REPORTS TO: Director-Curriculum (ES, MS, HS)
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
PAY GRADE: AI 2
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The ELAR Specialist works in collaboration with the Directors to develop the curriculum for the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Curriculum writing experience
- Five years’ job related experience
Preferred:
- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university
- Leadership experience at the campus level and/or district level
- Professional development design and presentation experience
- Valid Texas teaching certificate (preferably in the assigned content area)
- Five years’ classroom experience
- Experience with multiple grade levels
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Expertise in elementary ELA curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Exceptional knowledge of effective teaching strategies and classroom environments
- Evidence of success in academically advancing gifted and talented students, English Language Learners, and students with special needs in an inclusive environment
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Skilled in the area of planning and presenting professional learning
- Ability to facilitate and coordinate district functions
- Understanding of the instructional needs of 21st century learners
- Works effectively with and lead adult learners
- Strong technology skills including technology integration
- Ability to multi-task
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Collaborates with ELA/SLA specialist to develop, review, and modify elementary ELA curriculum and assessments
- Analyzes data and identifies the appropriate instructional response to data trends
- Remain current on educational research and instructional best practices and apply research and data to daily work
- Attends weekend and evening events associated with ELA programs
- Performs all other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory of instructional programs; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
