    Position Overview
    The successful Teacher for Alternatives to Suspension will:
    • collaborate with the School Leadership Teams at Westwood Schools and Spring Lake Park High School to provide a positive, learner-centered environment when students need a short-term alternative to suspension setting
    • build positive and productive relationships with students to support their success as they continue to progress in their academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth and development in the alternative to suspension setting
    • plan for, cultivate, manage, and reinforce a learner-centered environment by providing clear, consistent, and caring expectations
    • engage students and staff in restorative practices to re-establish and strengthen relationships
    • provide leadership to paraprofessionals who are partnering to support students’ needs during the day in the alternative to suspension setting;
    • design and implement targeted interventions and supports to support students in developing lagging social, emotional, and/or behavioral skills
    • partner with students, families, counselors, and administration to support student transition in and back to the school.

    Preferences
    We strongly prefer candidates who have experience working with middle and/or high school students. Demonstrated experience in working effectively in collaboration with colleagues and families is desired. Multilingual candidates, and candidates with experience working in a diverse community are preferred.

    Qualifications
    Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in education, special education licensure required. The successful candidate must have applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in this role. Additional demonstrated qualifications include commitment to the equitable education of all students; creative planning and organizational skills; highly effective interpersonal skills.
