Title : Propagation Manager
Reporting to : Operations Manager
Summary :
The Propagation Manager position oversees the entire propagation production process. Ensure all established protocols in regards to the harvesting, sticking and transplanting of cuttings are implemented. Based on sales demands, schedule and manage production plans in database. Evaluate departmental labor needs to meet production requirements. Interact with other managers concerning overall production operations.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Based on sales plans, determine production schedule for on-time availability of required quantity and size of plants.
- Based on production schedule, determine optimum number of employees needed to complete the work on time and at maximum efficiency.
- Research and implement all labor savings methods including Lean and purchase of new equipment to increase production.
- Based on prior production records and knowledge of the job, determine expected production rates for jobs performed in the Propagation Department.
- Evaluate and adjust production rates on a yearly basis.
- Oversee performance of employees on a regular basis using the daily recorded production rates.
- Maintain nursery database for all plants in Propagation Department.
- Determine procedures and set standards for jobs performed in Propagation Department by crew workers.
Specify size and type of acceptable cutting wood.
Specify location where cutting wood is to be taken and maintain written records of where each crop was cut.Implement sanitation procedures regarding cutting wood and sanitation throughout the Propagation Department.Specify type of media, fertilizer and type of flat for the crop stuck.Specify type of rooting hormone used for the crop.Determine proper amount of mist for plants in Propagation Department through manipulation of environmental program settings.Based on most recent research, determine and implement a pest management program of all plants in Propagation.Ensure all propagation equipment is in good working order.Assess the performance of department employees.Provide regular written performance reviews.
Provide on-going feedback to employees on daily activities.Administer disciplinary action as needed.Responsible for written documentation of all related policies and procedures.Maintain sufficient inventory of supplies needed within Propagation Dept.Working with Stock Manager, determine quantity of stock plants to maintain in order to provide sufficient cutting wood.Check continually to make sure the plants being produced are the correct ones and healthy.
Working with Stock Manager, make sure plants for future introductions are cut and rooted in Propagation Dept.Make sure that at least one-half of all cutting wood comes from stock plants.Additional Responsibilities :

Associates or Bachelor’s degree in plant science-related field with 3 to 5 years of increasing propagation responsibilities.At least 1 year of experience in the supervision of 6 or more people, preferably in a greenhouse or nursery environment.Computer skills are required for propagation-related tasks in nursery database and environmental program as well as proficiency in Excel and Word.Must possess the ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move 20 pounds.Bilingual English-Spanish skills are highly desirable.Performance Requirements :
