POSITION: LTS School Nurse
Begins late February or early March 2025
Shrewsbury Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Long-Term Substitute School Nurse for Spring Street School. This position is available due to a leave of absence of eight weeks and will begin in late February or early March and will include training days. The rate will be negotiated.
Preferred candidates should possess a school nurse educator's license from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (or be eligible to obtain one with our support), a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university, hold a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts (M.G.L. c.71, s.53), current CPR certification, AED training from a recognized provider (such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association), a strong knowledge and demonstrated skill in working with children of high school age, and a desire to be part of a collaborative school community.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Manages and coordinates health services for students within the school setting, while interacting with their educational goals, personal health, and public health needs
•Organizes and implements state-mandated programs such as immunization surveillance and screening programs. Completes and submits state mandated reports and surveys as required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health
•Promotes positive safety practices within and outside of the school building, and ensures that the school has an effective medical emergency plan
•Assesses children for a wide range of physical and behavioral illnesses and develops programs to prevent the spread of disease and promote wellness
•Provides medically prescribed interventions, including medication administration and treatments. Provides first aid/emergency care to students and staff
•Collaborates with parents, community health care providers and agencies
•Maintains comprehensive and confidential health records for students which are in compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Must remain proficient in current technology for health record database used throughout the system
•Ensures timely documentation of all encounters with students
•Uses data collection to plan and evaluate the school health program
•Serves as member of pertinent committees and teams supporting the school (Building Leadership Team, Crisis Team, Health Advisory)
•Serves as liaison among the school, the home, community health care agencies, and other healthcare professionals
•Using the nursing process, collaborates with family and student to develop and implement an individualized health care plan when appropriate
