SpringBrook Village of La Crescent was recently named #1 Assisted Living the the area! We are looking for a creative and outgoing person to join our Life Enrichment team. We are looking to hire a Full or Part-time activities person. We are looking for an enthusiastic, outgoing and positive person to join our team. Must be passionate about the elderly and like to have fun!
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
· Facilitate activities that meet the physical, emotional, psychosocial, cognitive, and spiritual needs of the resident.
· Resident activities will be provided based on comfort, safety and maximizing everyone’s capabilities.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Life Enrichment Director
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Illustrative examples, not all inclusive)
1. Familiar with resident’s activity needs and assists them in maximizing their potential.
2. Assists with executing scheduled activities and motivates residents to participate
3. Actively promotes a healthy team approach by communicating and working cooperatively to meet resident’s activity needs
4. Adapts and modifies scheduled activities to meet the needs of individual residents
5. Ensures resident safety during activities and/or outings; follows health and safety policies, anticipates hazards, and takes appropriate measures as needed
6. Assists in establishing what activities would best suit the individual residents
7. Utilizes therapeutic techniques such as reality orientation, validation, reassurance, reminiscing, and redirection that is consistent with each resident’s needs
8. Assisting in the planning, organizing, and implementing activities that meet individual resident’s needs
9. Communicates with residents, family members, and volunteers in a caring and respectful manner.
10. Assists in the service of resident meals and water pass.
11. Communicates any resident concerns to nursing staff.
12. Assists in maintaining resident confidentiality and dignity in a professional manner
13. Attends mandatory meetings and participates in scheduled staff meetings and ongoing in-service opportunities
14. Maintains household daily operations to promote a safe, clean, home-like manner
15. Responds to the many requests of residents, families, and volunteer needs in a professional manner
EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING:
1. High School education or equivalent
2. Experience working with the advanced age, Alzheimer’s and Dementia preferred
1. Experience in a related field preferred
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Lifting light objects such as resident charts, linen, resident care items, appliances, etc., ranging from less than 10-25 pounds without assistance
· Occasional rearranging of furniture with assistance
· Transporting residents to and from activities, including pushing wheelchairs
· On rare occasions may be asked to assist with vacuuming, carpet cleaning, or dusting if associated with Life Enrichment activity
· Standing and walking up to 90% of a four to eight-hour day to provide resident assistance
· Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching as required in resident Life Enrichment activities
· Reaching overhead as required to obtain linen and stock from shelves ranging from floor to 6’ and to remove or replace resident items from closet shelves
· A sense of balance is required to safely ambulate a resident from one area to another (pushing wheelchair)
· Consistent simple to moderate manipulative skills as required to provide personal care, i.e., give manicures, arts and crafts projects, etc.
· Ability to concentrate on moderate to fine detail with many interruptions
· Attention span necessary to attend to a task/function for 10-45 minutes relative to activity programming
· Ability to comprehend oral and written instructions
· Ability to comprehend directions and specific ideas behind actions
· Ability to comprehend in-service materials and principles as required to understand and apply in practice, i.e., management of the typical behaviors of dementia
· Memory capable of remembering task/assignment ranging from a few hours to long periods of time
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
· Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals such as disinfectants, cleaner, soap, etc., as identified by departments MSDS manual
· Occasional exposure to latex, tyvex, plastic and/or materials, which are used for personal protective equipment
· Occasional exposure to bodily injuries due to unpredictable behaviors of residents
· Occasional exposure to loud and unpleasant noises due to beepers, alarms, vacuum cleaners, etc.
· Occasional exposure to unpleasant odors as related to care of incontinent residents
· Frequent exposure to radiation due to use of microwave
· Seasonal exposure to dust and pollen due to patio
Frequent exposure to electrical/mechanical hazards, i.e., electrical equipment, etc
· Frequent exposure to burns, grease, or oil due to cooking and serving food
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Genuine interest in caring for the older adult population
· Exhibits a high degree of patience, compassion, and tolerance in working with people of varied levels of functioning
· Ability to communicate with residents, families, friends, volunteers, and collateral community resources in a pleasant, appropriate manner
· Exhibits a willingness to enhance capabilities through participation in ongoing in-service opportunities.
· Maintain personal schedule including the on-time conduction of scheduled programs.
· Self-directed, motivated person who can follow through with responsibility as directed by the Life Enrichment Director.
· Available and willing to work beyond regular hours of work as well as weekends and holidays.
· Performs other related duties as directed by the Life Enrichment Director, i.e., help with serving meals in our Memory Care units as well as assisting with water/snack pass.
