Purpose of the Role
The Editorial Engagement Assistant will support Springer Nature's Editorial Engagement team by providing operational and administrative support. The Editorial Engagement Team works to inform, engage and earn the loyalty of Springer Nature's community of over 100,000 Editors and Editorial Board Members, and to better motivate them to contribute to the development and running of the journals they serve. As Editorial Engagement Assistant you will support this goal by helping to facilitate our training, communications and reward programmes, and reporting on success.
Responsibilities
- Project management support: Driving and delivering activities related to key engagement initiatives and supporting the day-to-day management of projects across the breadth of the Editorial Engagement team. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting our editorial engagement initiatives by carrying out research activities, monitoring their progress and measuring success
- Providing project management and administrative support for ongoing projects
- Providing meeting support including managing agendas and minutes
- Facilitating the coordination of monthly reporting for initiatives across the Editorial Engagement team
- Editor engagement events and training webinars: Facilitating the coordination of successful events as part of our outreach and training programmes. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the coordination of our external editor training programme and the development of new training initiatives, supporting the Editorial Training Managers as required
- Acting as a moderator for live training webinars, providing support for the presenters and ensuring their smooth running
- Facilitating the set-up of events on our community and events platforms
- Providing on the day support for our virtual event programme
- Customer support: Providing a positive experience for our external Editors, EBMs and Reviewers, and building relationships with these key stakeholders. Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining the content on the Springer Nature sites for Editors, EBMs and reviewers and support the development of these sites to meet market needs
- Supporting the Editorial Communications Managers by preparing written communications, on an ad hoc basis, for distribution via Springer Nature's Editorial Communities
- Providing logistical support for the development of Springer Nature external editor focus groups, and serve as a liaison with these groups, including regular contact, virtual and in-person meetings
- Serving as a point of contact for the Editorial Engagement Team, monitoring the team inbox and triaging request to the appropriate team member
- Providing team cover during periods of absence
Key Relationships
- Reporting into the Editorial Engagement Project Manager, working with them and the team of Editorial Engagement Assistants to provide project management support and ensure success
- Establishing a close working relationship with colleagues across the Editorial Engagement Team to effectively provide operational and administrative support on a range of projects
- Liaising regularly with Publishing and Editorial teams to coordinate our training and events programmes
- Liaising regularly with other teams in Publishing Performance and Intelligence, collaborating on projects and initiatives as required
- Working collaboratively with teams across Springer Nature, such as Marketing, Internal and External Comms, as required
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Experience
- An up-to-date understanding and interest in research communication and the publishing landscape
- Understanding of or experience in a community engagement setting
- A good understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Journal Editors, Editorial Board Members and Reviewers
- Experience of project management
- Customer service experience
Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Confidence in communicating and engaging with stakeholders at various levels of seniority, including researchers, editors, and other partners, in a professional manner
- Highly effective oral and written communication skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects confidently and in agreed timelines
- Excellent organisational skills including coordinating multiple priorities
- Ability to be a self-starter, taking ownership of tasks and accomplishing them independently
- Ability to work cooperatively and flexibly with other members of the team
- A positive approach to problem-solving
- Good IT skills, including using Google Suite and MS Office
Qualifications
- A University degree or equivalent experience

Annualized Base Salary Range (US ONLY): $45,000 - $60,000.
